What do you think we're paying this guy. He was apparently making $2 million three years ago with the Jets when the Rams hired him away.

He better be taking a substantial pay cut to come here.

He is obviously well respected in NFL circles to stick around for as long as he has. He was even up for HC consideration a few different times which really tells you he at least knows his Xs and Os and can sell himself. Should be good on the recruiting trail if he applies himself.

A college hiring an active NFL coordinator seems pretty unheard-of. I've never seen it, at least
Wasn't Grantham an active NFL coordinator? I hope this hire works out better than that one did.

His numbers

2014: 28th

2010: 11th
2009: 20th

He once finished 11th in Total Offense in the NFL. I guess that's something.

It's not that his offenses weren't exlosive, they were just plain bad.
Meh.. for the Rams and the frickin Jets. Talent wise they're both comparable to say Kentucky in the east. Especially without Bradford (who's not even great anyway). I'm not saying it's an awesome hire by any means, but that I wouldn't let his lack of recent success in the NFL as a coordinator be the reason to shoot him down already as a college coordinator.

Plus, if you're going to trust Richt with anything I would trust him when it comes to who he wants as his OC/QBs coach.

He was a position coach for the Cowboys IIRC. He served as the Browns DC for 3 years prior to that

Brian Schottenheimer's QB's the last 7-8 years? Bradford, Mark Sanchez, Brett Farve (yeah, the comeback).

I think if I was in his shoes I would have quit football a long time ago.

Got to admire his perseverance

Mark Sanchez looked better this year than he ever did with the Jets. You can say it was the talent around him but in 4 seasons with the Jets he never came close to the same QB rating he had this year in Philly. Maybe it was the offense but the coach has to lay some blame.

His Completion percentage averaged around 55pct at the Jets. It was close to 65pct this year.

Schottenheimer's tenure as an NFL OC was a lot longer than Grantham's as a DC. You don't last as an OC in the NFL for that many years without knowing what you're doing. I'd guess those teams thought he was doing a pretty good job with the talent he had.

That is not saying very much. His season crashed and burned after starting strong, but he is not and never will be a successful QB in the NFL.

It says alot actually. It say some coaches can at least improve a mediocre QB.

Arguably, Saban didn't have a great record in the NFL, either, but college ball is where it's at for him. Maybe Schott will be like that, too. I'd really like to see a splashy OL hire, but I know I'm going to be disappointed.
