Damn I never realized that's what it was before the Red Rooster. Seems like they'd have a lot more success now with a bigger brand and a better location elsewhere in Athens

I dunno. I worked with the girlfriend of a manager for the place back in 2003. That's the only reason I remember it.

In 10 years downtown Athens will look very different. Once these newer, more polished buildings come in, the others will want to upgrade some. I think part of the charm is the old, college town look. Can't stop progress though.

starbucks did not kill blue sky. blue sky killed blue sky by alienating the existing customer base while trying to grow their business. walkers does just fine right next to starbucks.

I think Hendershots has some great coffee. I either go there or jittery joes in 5 points when I am in town.
Starbucks is not as good as them, but I will say that there are many instances that Starbucks is th best coffee in a town or at least an area of town... There was a time when there was no good coffee in a lot of town... Period... Starbucks lead the charge to change that to a certain extent.

Starbucks is the only consistently good coffee house in Athens. Sorry to say.

Jittery Joes, Hendershots, Two Story, Walkers, and Sips are all better places. 1000 Faces can make an argument for being better coffee.
