I think it is natural to have some venting and complaining after the disappointing season we just completed. The rumors and speculation that are running rampant right now are due to credibility/competence questions for Sumlin because of the handling of Kyle Allen's shoulder injury and having our 1st and 2nd string QB's essentially quit before the season was over.

Sumlin easily could have handled the Kyle Allen injury much better at no cost to himself. I have no idea what happened with both QB's quitting and I don't know that we will ever get the full story on this.

Without the QB drama, the off season venting would have revolved around making offensive coaching changes of the same quality as bringing in Chavis. Not as much venom would have been directed at Sumlin. We would just be waiting to see what happened on the coaching staff changes.

If we're going to be 100% honest, we have to admit that a large portion of our fanbase sucks, on multiple levels (emotional, intelligence, etc.). So seeing the discussion dissolve into a complete shtshow is not surprising at all.

Do you know Sumlin didn't lie about having Meacham?

For me this statement sums up the problem with A&M cliff-jumpers. Some dingbat says something on TA, and it takes off because some want to believe it. And it's then up to Sumlin or someone on staff to "prove" it isn't true??? How does that make sense?

This Meacham rumor is a great example. Any kind of hiring activity involves negotiations and contracts. Nothing is in the bag until the contract is signed and the press announcement is made. A prospective deal could unravel for a whole host of reasons.

I can assure you that the Internet and social media are not going away. There is going to be some method for fans to communicate their views on what's going on with A&M sports in real time from here on out.

I'm class of '89, and I'm not reading much different than what the other guys were saying back in the day in my dorm room in Walton Hall. Fans have strong opinions.

The coaches and AD folks couldn't read it from the fans then. But there were sportswriters who would rip coaches. So let's not act like criticism is a new thing. You can merely see what fans beyond your own circle of buddies think.

I get it that nobody likes criticism. But we're not having recruiting problems because the fans are saying things were mismanaged. It's because they were.

I'm alot more restrained about criticizing the high school basketball coach that lives on my block. He doesn't make much money and they charge $5 to see the games. But if a coach is raking in $5 million/yr, criticism is part of the job description.

In fairness to Aggydome, people like Chimp Brown will make shite up to try to turn the recruiting tide for his shitty burnt orange, and other media sources will run with it.

We need to invest BILLIONS into a journalism department and overthrough the BOMC.

You know what else is toxic?

Categorically DENYING facts when presented, because they weren't said by FranObserver...I mean Liucci.

Also, a tale of two coaches.

We knew Dino Babers was terrible in 2001 but Slocum wouldn't fire him. 3 games into 2002, Slocum fires him.

We knew Jake Spavital was terrible in 2014. Not only does Sumlin stick with him, but he waits until 36 days after the LSU loss to fire him.

All he had to say was, "It was clear that Kyle was injured far more than he wanted to admit. His competitiveness put him in a bad situation and we enabled that to happen" instead of that made up quarterback competition bullshite.

No doubt. And there's nothing wrong with that. There's plenty to gripe about with Sumlin and at least some to gripe about with Hyman. But letting unsubstantiated rumors (Sumlin told BMAs Meacham was in the bag) run wild is a completely different thing. We have way too many fans that believe Zuckerberg is going to split $4.5 million among Facebook users who share a post. A bit further down the disgust ladder is our favorite sky-is-falling guy spreading outright lies about the AD that are demonstrably false. And the first guy who responded to it was perfectly willing to believe the lie. Because internet. Or brain damage, I dunno.

Clearly it's a lie when Brent Zwerneman posts a quote stating that the 2013-2014 season was "postseason or bust", then after the season ends, with a WORSE record than the previous year and no invite to the NCAA or NIT, we mysteriously end up with a CBI spot and the AD says that fans need to "manage their expectations". Didn't hurt that the paid-for CBI appearance lined Hyman's pockets with more money as well.

Clearly the fact that the 2015 A&M baseball team was the first team in the history of the NCAA baseball tournament to have a top 5 RPI and an athletic director on the selection committee NOT to get a national seed was a LIE as well. Hyman deliberately did not state how weak TCU's strength of schedule and conference strength of schedule were compared to A&M's in that infamous interview. He could have simply stated that A&M should have been a national seed instead of DEFENDING TCU getting the seed over A&M. What did he have to lose? He wasn't going to be on the committee this year.

From a South Carolina poster:

quote:

When he involves himself with the actual process of the individual programs, both Pauline and he, in typical liberal UNC style ... it always gets messy. Often times mucking-up the water, causing serious internal issues, etc. He is the consummate politically inclined AD and do not be surprised to see him run for office once he retires from college sports.

I'd have to create 30+ response threads that have varying thread titles, some stupid meme like "vore" or "we tonight" and about 50 alters relating to Unaware Shove Work to even come close to that.

Nope, that wasn't a lie (as far as I know, and don't care to look it up).

Actually he did cite the stats for both teams. I guess he should have added "TCU sucks"? One thing he did point out that Aggie fans like to gloss over: if it had been between Vanderbilt (also left out of the top 8) and A&M, Vanderbilt would have won.

I didn't read him defending TCU's selection.

But none of that is what I'm talking about and you know it.

If we had been left out in favor of the defending national champion we would have accepted it.

TCU was not more deserving than Vanderbilt (which played out in Omaha)

In the four years I've been on this site, I've created ONE alter. It was called "Randalf Dook". I went a bit over the top and it didn't last long, but the Arkansas fans thought it was funny.
