It's time for Baylor alumni to demand real answers. Until they do, Chip is the only voice on the matter.
What is sad is that proves that Baylor fans are right- if they can just get past this news cycle it would blow over and they get to move on down the road. Chip alone is trying to keep it in the news cycle, and not for altruistic reasons. Just goes to show that not only are programs willing to do anything to win, we as a society have come to accept that they will do that.
Thanks Penn St.

If yes, you are obligated to save his life and are not a bad person. This would be similar to being a public defender, which Ken Starr is not.
you clearly don't get it.
Starr was appointed independent council in the Clinton probe. he would have had to quit his job to not do what he did. similarly, when a law firm accepts the business of a client and assigns councils, those councillors cant say no on the grounds that they dont want to defend a cretin. To do so would damage their careers.
Earlier you said he got the guy a better deal than he deserved. The Defendants council has the sole duty of advocating for their client. They are specifically NOT seeking justice. Justice is the responsibility of Judge. If a defendant's councillor was known to have pursued a less than ideal outcome for his client based solely on his belief that the person he represented was guilty, HE WOULD BE IN DANGER OF DISBARMENT. do you fricking get it yet?

I read this earlier at baylorfans.com and have no idea if it is correct or not. If it is, the only person who has the authority to fire a football coach or the AD is the school president (who they've apparently just fired), which seems a little backasswards to me but would explain why we aren't reading more about Briles/McCaw.
quote:
Another twist. Only Starr can fire Briles or Ian. The BOR does not have that authority because their job is to advise and oversee. The accreditation people will not allow the board to participate in actual operation of the university. By firing Starr, the BOR does not have to take the responsibility of firing anyone else.

He chose to defend Epstein. He was not appointed to do that. He wasn't assigned by his firm. Epstein's defense team sought Starr out as an independent contractor because of his insider status. Joining that defense was a decision that came of his own free will. Once he chose to defend him, yes he was obligated to seek the best outcome for his client, but that obligation came after his free decision to represent a known pederast for financial and political gain (greed). Do YOU get it yet?

Since when do we have Baylor fans on our board? Might as well invite sips if we're going to do that.

What Baylor doesn't get (yet) is that Starr, Briles and McCaw are damaged goods. There is no solution where they are allowed to stay. The drama (and comedy) will be about watching the BU "process" of getting to that moment of clarity.

Now that reports are surfacing that Briles firing will be announced at 11am, is it wrong that my first thought is "Chip Brown was wrong on yet another major story"?

Reporting on ESPN now. Players saying goodbye on twitter.

wow, pretty amazing this turned this fast. They got the report last week and nada.
Guess sanity prevailed and some folks realized they can't just pretend this hasn't happened.
I hope cleaning house doesn't kill Baylor because they shouldn't be hammered for doing the right thing.

Well, props to Baylor for cleaning house, albeit way too fricking late.

Baylor "did the right thing" without Briles for the previous 80 years and they were a pretty terrible program. I'd imagine they'll revert to that

probably so. Grant Teaff years weren't that bad. But I'm thinking way beyond their football program here.

#Baylor president Ken Starr - not FB coach Art Briles - will be the fall guy for #BU's mishandling of rape scandal.

Good for them. Did the right thing.

Baylor expected to make defensive coordinator Phil Bennett interim coach, per source. Kendall Briles to remain on staff as of now.

They did the right thing. I am impressed that they had the balls to do the right thing here, especially with that stadium hanging over them. Props to their alumni for basically saying the buck stops here and having the courage to face down the tunnel of what this means for them in the future.

Holy shite I didn't think they had the stones to fire Briles.
Good on them. Day late dollar short, but still good on them.
