With the transfer of Shaun Ward and Matt Davis and the unfortunate death of Polo, that currently leaves 77 total scholarship players on the roster (10 seniors, 17 juniors, 18 sophomores, and 32 freshmen)

After the seniors graduate, that leaves 18 available scholarships.

If you assume attrition from at least one-two of the redshirt juniors and the departure of either Johnny Manziel (NFL) or Matt Joeckel (if Manziel stays), that leaves 21 scholarships.

Assuming that Kyle Allen and J.J. Gustafson count towards 2013, that leaves 19 we can sign in 2014.

A&M had taken a DT out of STL back in 2012 I think, Edmond Ray. Kid had to go the JUCO route. I think A&M's recruiting has gone to a different level since the 2012 class, but I was curious if there was still interest in Ray. If anyone has heard anything either which way.

haven't heard anything and I'd be shocked if we followed up. He's just not a need any more like he was when he originally signed

That is kind of what my thought was. Was curious, just being from STL.

Wouldn't need him. We've got the #3 DT in the country (DeShawn Washington) committed and only lose one DT (Kirby Ennis) after this year.

Recruiting is about being negative at times. All's fair as far as I'm concerned. It's sales and you sell why your program is better than someone elses. But this case is one that looks, well, like they pulled the wool over a kid's eyes and now they have 8 more months to keep him in the dark. I don't think this is over and I'd hardly be shocked if he ends up at Arkansas.
First game week and tu commit Kevin Shorter is visiting Fayetteville

Kid is another Matt Davis, sad that we lost somebody that wanted to be here so bad.

We signed 3 quarterbacks in the 2010 class.

One transferred
One might start Saturday
One WILL start Saturday

Davis could have gone the Honeycutt route and changed positions. He wanted to play QB. End of story.

Guys when someone gets time will you do a prediction thread for the rest of the class?

I'm asking you TMC

Only prediction I have is that Hoza Scott goes the way of Derrick Griffin unless there's some major improvement.

heh, well I thought I'd successfully sidestepped that question last time you asked

I really don't like making predictions about what 17-18 yo's are going to do months from now. It's a bit of a crapshoot. I can say our staff is very confident in our season. We've also done an excellent job building depth the last 2 classes. Only need positions left for '14 imo are 1 more DE and 1 more LB so everything else is just luxury takes. So I think we'll take the elite and worry about positions later.

With that in mind, we pretty much have offers out to a lot of longshots hoping to turn their heads. I think in 2-3 weeks we'll all know where we stand with a lot of those guys because many of them are taking officials on Sept 14.

So the guys we still have a shot with are:
A&M leans: Myles Garrett, Q Cunnigham and maybe Casey Tucker?
small chance with: Noil, Willis, Brown, Braden Smith

Is this fairly accurate?

I'd say those are fairly accurate but we're recruiting a bunch more that you left off. Just off the top of my head

S Steven Parker
LB Zach Whitley (Bama commit)
S Jamal Adams
DT Josh Frazier
JUCO LB Chris Weatherd (UT commit)
WR Budda Baker

I think most of these would fall into "small chance" but just about all of them will be in town next weekend. So after the Bama game we'll have a much better idea of where things stand. I keep hoping we can get Baylor commit Davian Hall to listen because I think he'd be a perfect X which we desperately need. He's set up OV's to Bama and Arky but not us.
