Looks like we're officially in the mix with Bishard "Budda" Baker from WA as he's setting up an official. We're recruiting him as a WR not safety as I posted. Here's a highlight video. It labels him as a RB/S though he does appear to be split wide a bit.
quote:

Baker isn’t going to blow you away with his size -- he measured in at 5-foot-9 and 174 pounds. Baker is also not going to blow you away with his testing numbers -- 4.51 40-yard dash, 4.15 shuttle, 35-inch vertical leap. But where he did blow the competition away at The Opening was with his on-field play. Baker, the nation’s No. 141 player, made the difficult catches look easy all week long. Routine short passes often turned into long gainers. Passes that were overthrown turned into acrobatic diving catches. He even took to the air and laid his entire body out on one touchdown grab during Tuesday’s 7-on-7 pool play. He took a cameraman out in the process but still managed to come up with the catch. -- Jeremy Crabtree (ESPN)

However....I'd say seriously temper expectations as here's an interview with him from ESPN. If you listen to what he's saying is important to him, we don't seem to be a very good fit at all and this interview was Friday just before we offered

Found this to be an interesting quote from McKinney. Think he's probably right

There's no such thing as bad press it seems.

I find it odd that when we are talked about negatively, Aggies as a whole are super sensitive. That's just the price of success. We need to turn the other cheek and move on because it's not going away as long as we're winning.

Are the NYY hurt because they are the most hated team in the world? No, they draw more than any other club on the road and it's not remotely close. People are picking sides. They'll watch because they want us to win. Or they'll watch because they want us to lose. Either way, they watch and from a recruiting standpoint, how can that kind of exposure be bad?

This is so true.

2014 Newton RB Kevin Shorter will announce his college selection after his team's final scrimmage on 8/16 tween #TAMU, Arkansas, and Texas.

He seems concerned with our depth chart and most think he's going to Arkansas now. We'll see I suppose. I believe he's coming to visit an A&M practice before announcing.

No shot of Texas getting him right?

honestly right now, I'd say A&M is the odd man out. Whatever happened the last two weeks has seen him take a very cynical view of his situation at A&M as he's publicly commented negatively about both our depth chart and his role in our offense. During that time he's been to Austin twice and Fayetteville once.

you need to work harder as 2015 RB Rodney Anderson from Katy beat him to the punch and committed today. He visited practice yesterday. Sheffield was there today. Hoping he follows suit.

I guess this means I have to make a 2015 thread but I'll probably wait since no one cares about anything but Manziel right now

It's gonna get a sticky so make it whenever you're ready. Johnny isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

Believe he's coming in Saturday again. I know we like him but we're sitting really pretty with a bunch of 2015 RBs and frankly his concern about depth is somewhat valid as he'll most likely redshirt for us (he's coming from 2A ball). I want him because we want him but I'm not losing any sleep over this one. With 3 sophomores and a freshman on campus plus Nixon already committed, I'm just not too worried about RB depth.

Interesting development on LB Edwin Freeman. He had previously announced he would commit before the season and almost everyone thought it would be the horns. However he's changed plans and now will take official visits to A&M, LSU, OU, TCU and Texas before deciding.

Still don't particularly like our chances since he wants to play S and we are telling him LB, but this has to be viewed as a positive development.

Shorter is either the most wiwhy-washy dude ever or there are things going on behind the scenes. He has officially cancelled his trip back to A&M. I don't have any info atm as to why but have a few guesses. Whatever the reason, I'd guess we're now no longer in it for him.

For the best honestly, '15 class is stacked, if we could land Soso or Hasty along with the Katy kid who committed we'll be looking really good

#TAMU LB commit Hoza Scott is no longer part of the La Porte football program.

Not too terribly surprising but looks like Hoza's chances of attending college are unlikely. Sort of reminiscent of WR Jamar Gibson from the '13 class. Not sure where he is these days. I think he ended up committing to UH but don't think he got in.
