I said we weren't interested in any sip commits beside Alaka but it appears we opened a dialogue with Derick Roberson. He's the one that put out a top 3 list a week or two ago -- and that was before the meltdown in Provo. Sounds like he is coming in for the game this weekend. Mack going to enforce that no-visit policy?

Roberson is still listed as a solid commit by Rivals.

2014 LSU Target Davon Godchaux and 2014 LSU Commit Jacory Washington are visiting you guys this weekend. So thought I'd give some background.

DL Davon Godchaux:
Davon was a guy that was open about wanting an lsu offer for awhile now, we have infact offered a committable offer to him. He is announcing on December 28 and will be an EE. He was hurt (knee - questionable play to cause injury) in his last game but said after the game he was fine and ditched the crutches and walked without them. Davon is a great young man, cares about his HS teammates and family tremendously and is one of the most mature kids you will find at his age. He plays NT in his HS 3-4 defense and still makes plays sideline to sideline, he is a very good prospect and one that will represent the program of his choice extremely well on and off the field.
Highlights

LSU TE Commit Jacory Washington:
Jacory was an early commit for us as he committed in January of this year, but he was open with our staff then that he stoll wished to take vists elsewhere and our staff has never had a problem with that. He's been a very big recruiter for this class as he has formed bonds with most of the instate guys and a few OOS, him flipping would come as a surprise to our staff. He is a big time receiving target but needs to bulk up a bit. Very talented player and like davon, a very mature, well rounded, respectful young man.

We've apparently offered Argyle K Cole Hedlund who is currently committed to Arkansas. Anybody surprised that we are looking for a kicker 3 weeks into the season?

Allen didn't look that great after the 28-0 start, but then again, his offensive line is HORRIBLE and they lost their starting center.

The shotgun snaps were barely reaching him with the backup.

I will say that some of the throws he made while getting hit would have been caught by better receivers.

We're sort of in the same boat as y'all. Recruits make positive statements/tweets, then follow that up with similar ones about other schools or just saying outlandish stuff. All of it is trying to read tea leaves. Nothing much will happen til the season is over though

- DE Myles Garrett is going to make it official on Oct 19th when he visits for the Auburn game. He still plans to take a few visits after that
- there are whispers that LB Hoza Scott may not be in that bad of shape. He hasn't taken the SAT/ACT yet though so it's really tough to say
- we'll probably take at least one JUCO OT. There are a couple (Gennesy and Blair) we have been working on and a commit could come soon. We'd probably take both but we're working on a few others as well

Great news. Such a shame if he can't make it on campus and suit up for y'all

it's certainly no sure thing. He's back in his HS's good graces and is playing. He seems to be focused on qualifying when for a time he seemed uninterested.

He, like Garrett and Harvey, imo would be a true impact type of guy as a freshman. That's something, even with a nice class, we didn't have coming in this year. Most of the elite guys were physically not ready or were moving positions.

Word is that Texas CB commit Jermaine Roberts reached out to our coaching staff in the last week. I don't think we'll push hard for him just yet but I imagine we'd talk about setting up an OV with him towards the latter part of the season.

We would like at least one more DB. We'd prefer a safety, but both Harvey and Watts could potentially play FS. So it's possible we'd take Roberts. My guess is we schedule his OV after Steven Parker's. Also, our staff has not at all written off Jamal Adams. We'd take him regardless of who else we took though so he wouldn't be a numbers guy (though if he committed tomorrow we might pass on everyone else but Tony Brown, who we won't get).

Jermaine looked good going against Dupree the other night. Interesting to see what happens in Austin. Kid is a player.

I think we ended up taking Watts over him earlier because he's too slight. He's a lot like Noel Ellis in that regard. It's not that he's not good, but you can only have so many guys that size. Devante Harris is also built like that.

Guys like Sezer or Harvey who are also short, are much thicker and should be better in run support and better against some of the more physical receivers around. I dunno. I'll be a little surprised if we take him because it's my understanding that Yates is pretty damn happy with the freshmen we have on campus. And from a numbers perspective, given the impending commit of '15 5-star CB Kendall Sheffield, I just don't see a need.

CBs by class
Seniors - Jacobs
Juniors - Everett
Sophomores - Harris
Freshmen - Sezer, Garner, Ellis
Redshirts - Davis (possible FS)
'14 commits - Harvey, Watts

I think you'll see Watts redshirt so you'll end up with 2 freshmen playing next year (Davis and Harvey) and 2 the next (Watts and Sheffield). Spacing becomes much better

ETA - I also hate the idea of moving Harvey or Watts. They can play FS but I'd really like a FS playing FS. I think DSG will be nails but we need another for pipeline reasons.

in what might be the weirdest decision I've ever seen, 247 just ranked WR Frank Iheanacho as a 96 (that's a high 4*) and into their national top 100.

Iheanacho came on the radar all of last week when Clarence McKinney went down to his game. He's got no offers to speak of (UH is his only one) at this point and only started playing football this year (he actually played as a SO but had 3 total catches and quit). Like Mike Evans, he was a basketball player. He's definitely athletic and we seem to be very interested but that ranking just seems....absurd.

quote:

Frank Iheanacho, WR, Houston (Texas) Westside- Iheancho did not play football last season as the 6-foot-7, 220-pound freak athlete was full-time basketball. There have been countless players to transition from the hardwood to the gridiron that end up elite in football eventually. What’s impressed us about Ihenacho on film is that he’s already a somewhat polished receiver. He times his jumps perfectly, has excellent hands and is a relatively advanced route runner for the high school level. Houston jumped in with the first offer, but this list will reach double-digits shortly. Texas A&M and Texas both are sniffing around. Ihenacho could realistically end up as a five-star prospect in our final 2014 rankings.

I'm hearing that Kevin Shorter decommited from tu today. Gotta think he is gonna be an Arky lean with us a close second, but he may open it up to another Big 12 school based on his previous comments.

870 are you hearing anything on the Arkansas front?

Shorter didn't decommit. And if/when he does, he won't be coming to A&M

On the Iheanacho front, both A&M and Florida State offered him tonight.

Hahaha I just looked and 247 deleted their tweet about his decommitment. I really should have gone into the recruiting news business.

Tell me how a guy that nobody had heard of a week ago is a possible 5 star?

Iheanacho is definitely a weird situation. Apparently he's pretty good friends with Ifedi. I think he's of pretty recent African lineage (maybe they both are) and went to the same school. Not sure but think their families know each other. Anyway, they are good friends and he's coming in next weekend and speculation is that he'll commit very soon, which should give us 3 in the next week (DE Garrett, OT Gennessy, WR Nacho)

As to Shorter, I actually saw the quote (I just read his twitter comment that he didn't decommit) and yikes you can see why some thought he decommitted. "I’m keeping everything wide open in case something happens with Texas," Shorter explained. "Like if there was change and Coach Brown leaves." Like if there was a change Good luck with that but we've quit recruiting him.

In somewhat alarming news, Nick Harvey is heading to Dallas to watch the tu-OU game as a guest of tu. I don't care how the recruiting sites spin this, that's not good.

DSG: asked about our secondary his response was: "I feel good about it. As an early graduate, I can come in and take somebody's spot."
