Its impressive to me that we can recruit these running backs so well when we seem to have this spread offense reputation now. If you didn't look at our stats you would never know that we actually run a really balanced offense.

There have been a ton of schools and NFL teams that have run a variant of 1-back and the RB has been very successful from Thurmon Thomas to Marshall Faulk to Tiki Barber to LT. It's not the hammer backs like Lacy that we are recruiting so I think most of them can easily see how they fit into such an offense. I don't think we'll have a problem recruiting the all-purpose backs in this offense. But we may struggle to find a big back, which we will need every few years.

Btw, just on 2 minutes of film, Shorter probably most reminds me of Mike Goodson, who, provided he bought in, would have been a monster in this offense.

Its shameful how much talent we wasted between 2002 and 2010.

Was told yesterday that Nixon is questionable and then saw this quote. ...
quote:

He has been paying attention to the Aggies' recruiting class and is also keeping an eye on whether they're going to add any other running backs. "They've got a lot of explosive guys on the defensive side of the ball," Nixon said of the class. "Hopefully I remain the only 2014 running back that they [have]."

Kevin Shorter is on campus now and will be there til Sunday. I was told we expect him to commit.

He's talented but if he leaves because of competition then whatever. After watching our offense he had to be expecting to share touches the whole time on campus anyways. I doubt we will ever have a RB who dominates the ball

This. I hope he stays but we don't need people that aren't up for competition on the team.

well, now I wonder if we will push for Shorter this weekend or not.

Everything I heard suggested we were out of it for Mixon. But I remember thinking the same thing about Larue last year. Get him on campus for that Bama game and anything can happen imo.

Mixon is a guy I really wanted that I'd pretty much given up on. I'd be pumped if we somehow land him

indeed.

Shorter says he will announce his choice on Aug 3rd at 11am. Since saying this, multiple mods on 247 have put us in their crystal ball predictions, including an Arky mod. Take that for what it's worth.

Also, trying to keep 2015 on hold for now, but a tweet from 2015 5-star WR Tyron Johnson

Texas A&M was the best I fell in love!????

I genuinely think mixon is a tad overrated at RB. I don't think he see's holes well, and has average footwork especially in traffic.

This weekend WR Mark Andrews (AZ) was the only target of note. He's listed by the sites as WR/TE but we're recruiting him as a WR. He looks almost like a bigger version of Mike Evans. He had a great visit and his family is originally from Texas. He's also Kyle Allen's teammate. I sort of viewed him as a long shot coming in, but learning more about the situation, things are pretty positive for us. While he said he wants to see a few other places, it wouldn't totally shock me to see him commit sometime this week.

Andrews committed to Oklahoma today

I really wanted Andrews. Guys like him and RSJ provide so much flexibility in our offense. Hopefully it's not over

I think it likely is. We have the Kyle Allen factor who will probably always keep the door open, but OU was Andrews' favorite team growing up and he has a brother there now (though I think he's graduating after this year).

He committed to them despite their overall class being poor and despite 1 of their 2 other 4* players being a very similar player (Dallis Todd). That makes it seem more like going with his heart and honestly I don't fault a guy for that. But it's pretty hard to flip someone in that sort of situation.

2014 uncommitted guys that we are still actively recruiting to my knowledge

QB - none
RB - Joe Mixon, Kevin Shorter
WR - Speedy Noil, Malachi Dupre
OL - Casey Tucker, Braden Smith

DE - Myles Garrett, Qualen Cunningham, Gerald Willis
DT - Josh Frazier
LB - Kenny Young, Edwin Freeman
CB - Tony Brown
S - Jamal Adams, Stephen Parker, Budda Baker (new)

My guess is we believe we'll flip 1-2 at some point so we're probably thinking we get about 6 from this list of 16
