I agree. he is just too fast. When you use a spy, you would have to gamble and pick an outside LB, and hope you pick the right one.

LSU on the other hand used scheme and athleticism. Start with a 4-2-5, but they were too aggressive... they switched to a 3-2-6 with their outside corners playing really shallow zones.

I thought A&M went away from the run too much when we went to the three man front. The series after the long kickoff return was a perfect example. LSU fans who think we've got JFF covered because of last season have another thing coming. Only thing is that their run defense so bad they will be dominated by our OL and RBs so it won't really matter.

Johnny is gonna get his yards. Best Belee dat.

IMO, the trick this year is your O STAYING on the field, scoring and keeping Johnny on the side line....

Contain will work, but unless your providing pressure, I doubt Johnny will throw 3 picks again.

You have to still pressure him all while containing.

Again, ATM is GOING TO SCORE....

Just gotta limit the damage.

Pray he can't play because you can't defend a running quarterback who can also pass well and is surrounded by tons of talent.

The main problem is that it is the natural instinct of a defensive end or a linebacker to get the quarterback, because 99% of quarterbacks aren't going to be elusive like Johnny. Which is why they think they can get to him. And why they continue to try to get to him after being burned on previous plays.

They have to change the way they think and attack.

Whatever was told to Deadrick before the '09 SECCG must be told to Hubbard.

Its his ability to throw strikes against his body and off balance consistently that makes him a true freak to me.

That second it takes most qbs to get there legs under them lets say running left and setting to throw right is the difference a lot. JFF just lets it fly kinda jump kicks for power. But the throw gap is closed if you stop to set feet. That isn't talked about enough. That is an amazing part of his game. Other guys do it some. But get picked mostly. JFF does it all the time

That goes back to the other thread. Sumlin let him do this.

There is a chance we find the first NFL team willing to let a guy throw off balance a lot.

This. All of this.

A&M's response to contain is to run the football. LSU's response was (it appeared) to move to a 4-man front and hide linebackers as linemen, dropping one into coverage. That forced the OC to think pass.

It's simple for Bama this year. Spy Mosley. Keep HaHa deep to take away the deep ball. Belue/Fulton have to play tight on WRs and stay disciplined, if the play is lasting forever they can't turn back to Manziel, they gotta watch the WRs.

DL just has to push up the middle and keep contain on the outside. Sunseri will roam.

Almost all of the replies seem to be based on the JFF 2012 model (and I'm not sure those ideas would work, either). But he's obviously a better passer this year - mostly staying in the pocket and throwinng perfect 20-40 yard passes. And if that doesn't work: Ben Malena, Tra Carson, Trey Williams, Brandon Williams. I don't think any Aggie is worried about the offense.

It's the other side of the ball with McCarron-to-Cooper and Yeldon running that has us drinking.

It was Johnny's first game as a college QB, and he still nearly beat them

A&M would have skull fricked Florida if we had played in November instead of August, and you're a fool if you think otherwise.

LSU, on the other hand, played a great game against Johnny

DO NO SPY JFF. That does not work. Disguise the front 7. Drop a DL into coverage and press from another side. A spy is a wasted player.

Actually, that's not the case anymore. The Aggie Receivers now practice how to react to a Manziel scramble and get to where he can hit them.

Ideally, assuming you could scheme it, you would like to have pressure from the middle and contain on the outside. If you pressure too aggressively from the perimeter, you're going to create seams for him to run through. Secondly, you have to blend your coverage with more zone concepts than usual because the Aggy route tree can run off a lot of defenders in man and John Football can make a defense pay by running in the void that is created.

It is a tough task, but you want to pressure inside out or you want to "run him" toward your contain if you are coming from the perimeter.
