Who cares? They are pre-season rankings. Alabama wasn't even the top pick in 2009, 2011, or 2012. I'm sure Alabama will lose 1-3 games in 2014. But with the right breaks and guys developing, may be in the playoff discussion come November. The '15 season should be when all this young talent comes trough.

As of today, technically, FSU is the King and AU is the Prince. Bama is a mere peon currently.

But great gif

"Maybe because they are on a 2 game losing streak"

If only there was a recent example of a team coming off a similar season with a two losses to end the year including the Sugar Bowl going into the next season with a new quarterback and a new offensive coordinator. Cough....errr...2009. 2013/2014 is so similar to 2008/2009 it's scary. What happened the last time Alabama came off a terribly disappointing end to a promising season with a new starting quarterback and an otherwise stacked roster. Hint...it ended really well.

Here's what it comes down to for next season (and just about any future season).

The SEC Champion will be in the playoff.

No other SEC team will be.

There are 3-5 teams in the SEC that have a legit shot at winning the SEC title, Alabama is one of them.

Deal with it.

I just figured they are being favored for having a schedule w/ only a few teams on it who can take them out, that and they still believe Saban's presence will make a difference. Personally, I'm glad they have it easy, cause when they get around to showdowns w/ certain top tier teams, they're soft from their cupcake schedule. Let em' eat cake before stepping into LSU's stadium for an arse kicking. As far as the IB goes, Saban's never defeated a solid AU team, and the last time I remember bama beating an AU team who's ranked w/in top 10 was 1994.
Personally. I feel more confident in my team when they've been through hell and back, battle scars and all, fighting and hungry to improve as the season progresses vs playing cream puffs then playing to 'defend' this elite status that the sports writers bestowe upon in the preseason polls, etc.
Just sayin.

We still have strong question marks at CB despite signing 2 of the best in the nation.

QB big question mark.

Nose tackle, question mark.

The rest is very solid.

So yea I wouldn't put us in front of Auburn preseason but there aren't too many preseason teams I would bet on over us if I am putting my money where my mouth is.

QB we can work around with our talented WR group and the OL has a lot of pieces that are possible so you know something good is going to gel from it. Running game, there is a lot of talent there. Front 7 on defense is hyped to be very tenacious. We really just need the CBs to step us to give us a legit shot at a National title. That will be where that is lost or won.

Is that the best off season question you can ask?

Don't be jelly, Roll Tide!

as a note I have LSU vs UGA/UF winner for the SECCG

If that is indeed the match up, congrats LSU on the SEC title.

That's a pile of drivel. You actually think a team that's 79-15 with three national titles under Saban hasn't been tested and has a annual cake walk?

Have you looked at their schedule? Auburn, LSU, and Ole Miss are the only games they even have a remote chance of losing in the regular season

You left off Florida and Miss St

They have won 3 out of the last 5 national titles and have had the best recruiting class the last 4 years. I don't necessarily think this will be their best year bc qb is such a question mark, but it's pretty understandable as to why they get so much love. Will be favored in every game most likely.

I could easily see UF shutting down Bama's O. Whichever team creates more points off TOs will win that game.

They played them close last year w/o Dak.

The answer is simple:

Nick Saban once won a national title with Greg McElroy as his starting quarterback.

Greg. fricking. McElroy.

I simply assume his team is the best every year until proven otherwise.

This x1000000. We also won the division with JPW under center. And you think Coker is going to be the death of us? Lulz.

I think there's a lot more to it than Coker, but he doesn't exactly look like a world beater to me either:

Coker 2013

The most encouraging part of the video is the block he lays on a reverse.

McElroy was never a world beater. Bama won a title with him.

Very few backup quarterbacks look like world beaters standing behind the second string oline throwing to bench warmers.
