I'm just saying you can do both. I don't know why this sec thing where you can only invest or do one thing. You are either football or basketball school

The big ten does that considerably better than the sec. their top football programs are good basketball programs to. Wisconsin and mich state are elite basketball programs with damn good football programs. Ohio state and michigan are good too

I don't know why schools like Georgia auburn, etc just suck. Conisistently. There is money to be made in basketball

People in the South want to be outside.

People in the North want to be inside.

There are only two schools in the SEC that compete at a fairly high level in all 3 major collegiate sports(UFla & LSU). Maybe one could include TAMU. Should be more.

There are not 3 major collegiate sports outside this message board.

TCU has a worse basketball history than A&M.

A lot of SEC teams have invested in name coaches. It's going to take a few years to turn it around. Pearl has gotten off to a slow start, mostly because of injuries last year, but he's signing the best recruiting classes we've ever had. Also, MSU has Howland, SC has Martin, Bama has Avery, etc. It's going to take time, but the conference is on the upswing.

Not even close.

This is a pretty good year for our league in basketball. The leagues RPI numbers also reflect that.

Just because some of your teams suck, doesn't mean the rest of the league does.

3, maybe 4 teams will make the NCAAT, dont kid yourself

Tat is one one of the lamest excuses on this thread. There was a time for about 20 years where SEC basketball was up there with the Big 10's, Big East's and ACC and then sometime in the late 1990's people stopped caring at most of the SEC schools.

I can remember when EVERY SEC game was an event at the PMAC and most of those games were must see TV when it was on. It has a lot to do with the growth internationally of basketball, the one and done and changes in how the games are called from an officiating standpoint .

Also, name me a prolific college scorer at a big school that stays for more than 2 years?

The SEC doesn't have the same advantage in hoops as it does the outdoor sports. Kids these days don't want to put up with the cold and elements so the best ones come to the SEC to play in the better weather. That's not an issue for hoops. Everybody plays in the same type environment because its indoors. So we don't have the recruiting advantage in basketball that is held in the outdoor sports.
That's my weak arse theory.

It's simple, it's just not entertaining. It's a combination of kids leaving early, only staying 1 year, the rules change to simplify the game... nobody plays defense because you can't play defensive. Fouls are constantly called which slows the game down (boring).

When was the last time you watched the end of a basketball game? I can't do it, each team has 10 timeouts left and the last 90 seconds takes 45 minutes to play. Here is an idea, why not let the players play the last 90 seconds so that we can see that they have the ability to think for themselves?

It's too canned, too boring. Too much focus on getting the players ready for the NBA which is even more boring to watch. Of all sports in college, basketball is at the biggest risk of decline at the moment. In 10 years there is a good chance that collegiate soccer will be more popular than basketball.

This is coming from a person who was a student during the 90s.. and attended every home basketball game. The game is near dead.

or, you're a school like lsu that makes significant revenue in baseball. I can use the same comment against the Big10 and baseball except they are god awful in baseball.

and, btw, the Big10 just started moving back into a powerful football conference. They blew chunks for too many years (and this is based on your logic).

But, back to the original point. LSU makes significant revenue in football and baseball. I'd guess that they break even in men's basketball. I, more than most, am a big Tiger hoops fan. I want them to do well. But, no matter how good they do, they'll play reserve fiddle to the top dogs.

a sports fan who says basketball is boring is not a sports fan at all.

you don't have to like it.

Then, you say college soccer will surpass it in popularity?

Why is SEC Basketball so bad

The same reason SEC football was bad in the 1970s and is bad again now.

When one dominant program towers over all the others and wins practically all the championships, there is nothing for the others to build on to recruit players or hire coaches, so the rest of the league actually gets worse as the dominant team gets better.

It's great for Kentucky basketball and Alabama football, but it's bad for the SEC in both sports.

Concussions didn't kill football so you're right about that.

But like the WWE basketball will live on.

College basketball becoming a free throw contest does make it pretty hard to watch sometimes. And that's after we just went 29/31 at the stripe Saturday.

The inconsistency of the calls is just maddening sometimes. Guards can barely be touched yet big men can get hacked with no call. I still watch every game I can though

I honestly think this attitude is a major reason why SEC basketball is lagging

Then you're a moron

Only the Mississippi schools, South Carolina, and perhaps LSU place baseball anywhere near basketball

And Ole Miss and South Carolina have two of the stronger basketball programs in the conference

We just don't have a ton of basketball history. The ACC and B1G have made basketball more of a priority in expansion, the Big XII has benefitted from losing basketball dead weight in expansion, and the Big East is only basketball-only schools now. The SEC is as good as the Pac-12.

Besides, it's not that bad this year. I don't know why you took a Gonzaga-Tennessee game in which Gonzaga was favored by double digits and used it as your example as to why SEC basketball sucks.

Kentucky isn't the reason most SEC basketball programs are lagging

They're dominant within the conference, but not nationally. Have only won one under Calipari.

It's just a combination of bad coaching hires and programs not having good basketball foundations. LSU could be one of the better programs in the conference, but settling for Johnny Jones isn't helping.

Even within the SEC they haven't been as dominant as Alabama has been in football. 3 of the last 6 SEC regular season titles (one shared) is certainly very good, but UF has held its own winning the other 3 years. It was only a couple of seasons ago in 2014 that UF went 18-0 in conference and ended up getting the #1 overall seed.

College BB was a much more entertaining sport in the 90's. Rule changes have turned it into a much different game.
