Probably not, but it looks like he's happy being a DC until a great job falls into his lap.

Wouldn't it be nice to go and double or triple that amount as a HC. If he has any design on being a HC he will need to branch out or hope he is the one to take over for Nick. If all he wants to be is an assistant then he is in the perfect situation.
I don't disagree with your logic, but I'm thinking that until the perfect situation comes along (Ga. job, Saban retires, etc.) he'll be smart enough to be patient and bide his time. Fisher, Muschamp and Dooley have jumped and one has already gone bust and another is one year away from joining him, although I'll admit the 3rd one is doing pretty well!

How much has Dooley, Muschamp or Fisher made during the time Smart has been the DC ? How much is Dooley making with the Cowboys/TN buyout? How hot of a coach will Muschamp be even if he is fired by UF ? Look at Dabo, if he can be successful and make big money, Smart has to think he can do it also. Maybe he is waiting for the Clemson job to open up.

With how his teams have played? He won't get a good HC job. Even if he gets a DC job, he most likely won't be making as much as Smart is right now.

Again, I understand what you're saying, but none of us know what is actually going on with Kirby, only that his present position is pretty sweet.

Maybe not, but he sure can live well off what he has made at UF the last 4 years. It is not only about money, it is about ego. You want a Coordinator who wants to do well enough to get that next big job. I do not think Smart is any different.

History has proven when a coach feels comfortable in his position, performance starts to decline. Maybe that explains what happened at the end of the year. I still think Smart wants to be his own man.

Obviously most bama fans could agree he's not the hciw...

Not officially, but I know from a first-hand source of a conversation involving PB JR in which he said that he (and others) were hoping to make Saban the next AD...perhaps coach/AD for a year...with Smart becoming the head coach. TIFWIW. Hiring someone like Battle, who obviously at his age won't be in the job long, only fuels that fire. Certainly doesn't mean that Saban would do it...but expect the BOT at some point, when Saban is ready to step away from coaching, to make Saban say no.

I think that was the plan but I feel that if saban becomes the AD and Kiffin stays around he will be the next HC...

What I have heard is tha PBJ does not want Saban to have that control. Saban has alligned himself with Drummond, who is willing to give him sole control of the AD. PBJ is one of those individuals who do not want the next coach to never have HC Experience.

You might be an old timer but I could see why people would mistake you for a kid...

Pardon me for being a little "rough" with you, but here is why I said it:
1) Saban will never be ANYBODY'S AD. The job entails everything that the man despises about his job. Hell, his contract even has stipulations about how many mandatory appearances he must make.

2) In case you haven't noticed, he's a single-minded control freak, the antithesis of an AD.

3)He doesn't need the money nor want the attention.

Finally, if you are even remotely serious about Kiffin being a candidate for HC, then I take back my apology.
