I wouldn't call it "luck". Auburn got its arse beat the first half and whipped arse the second half. The IB was by far the most behind our guys were all year. Auburn went on something like an 8 plus minute fourth quarter drive to beat Kentucky. USCe and Clemson both played us tougher than Oregon. Those games were at our house. Oregon was not Auburn's toughest game of the year. The Oregon game was the biggest game of the year. Nothing more, nothing less.

Oregon was the only team to take Auburn into OT that season, so by that measure I guess they gave them the 'toughest' game.

But, as pointed out, they had quite a few very close games as well, so that's kind of an asinine point to make such a big deal about.

Besides, Oregon got destroyed in their very next game, also against a SEC team, that further deflates your already tenuous position.

We didn't go to OT. We won on a last second field goal. And I thought the Alabama game was a tougher game. Auburn looked physically superior all night against Oregon. Felt like if Cam didn't hurt his back that game would have been more decisive.

LSU fans don't want hear this but the team you faced was a shell of the one that Auburn face and it's not even close. We went in replacing 3 OL, 5/7 in the front seven, we had a 3 man rotation at ILB with one coming off a redshirt and both our NTs went into that game limping and Remington, a 285 pound JUCO, started his first collegiate game at NT.

I expected us to lose the game and not only that, if I had known Keliikipi and Heimuli would injured and Alonso suspended, I would've expected a beat down.

We had something to do with that and every other SEC team had the opportunity...

i'd say miss state, south carolina (the first time), clemson, kentucky, LSU, and bama gave auburn more fits, regardless of whatever the final score said. unlike the aforementioned games, i actually had little doubt auburn would close the deal, even when oregon tied it up.

and how many people are claiming the auburn win was a "statement game against the spread"? as if auburn never faced off against a spread team before, nor, i dunno, actually ran it themselves, lol....

Oregon put that hit on Cam to hurt his back. Credit goes to us, just like credit goes to Alabama and Marcell Dareus for that hit on McCoy that knocked him out of the game.

22-19 or 26-19 (if y'all scored a touchdown) is not a beat down. The largest lead in that game was 8 points. Oregon was always within a score. It was a competitive game till the end.

As for LSU, BisonDuck is on the money. The 2011 team was a shell of the 2010 team because of the attrition on defense and on the offensive line. Our starting center, Hroniss Grasu was a freshman, who got beat on almost every damn play. That 2011 season was a developing year for the team, and LSU was in a much better class. By midseason, you saw the experience pay off and Oregon blew out Stanford on the road and beat Wisconsin who played smashmouth football with Russell Wilson and Montee Ball. Now would they beat LSU or Alabama at the end of the 2011 season? I say no, those two teams were clearly the best in the country that year. But that 2012 Oregon team would have been a fun match up against 2012 LSU / 2012 Alabama.

Auburn barely got by Miss State and Washington State at the beginning of the season last year. At the end of the year they were the second best team in the country. Teams grow.

If you've read any of this thread you'd know I already said we were blown out in that game.

I just can't buy this buddy. In 2011, Oregon started out preseason #3, and finished #3 that year if memory serve's correct.

It would appear you are drastically overstating any difference between the two squads.

Hype off the previous year. You know that's what preseason polls always are. Oregon didnt start in the top 10 the year they went to the national championship. 2011 they were ranked way too high to start off the season. They got there by the end of the season with how they grew as a team. You can't start a freshman center and have a green defense and go up against that 2011 LSU team in week 1 and hope thing go well. After that loss they got knocked back to like 13 I believe. Then as the team grew and gained experience, blew out Stanford on the road, won the Rose Bowl, they made their way back up to a deserved ranking. I believe they finished the season ranked 4th behind Alabama, LSU, and Oklahoma State.

ETA - That year Alabama and LSU were head and shoulders above the rest in college football. Just my opinion. They smashed every other team they played, no contest was close. 2010 Oregon and 2012 Oregon were better than the 2011 Ducks team. Couple those factors and 2011 Oregon didnt stand a chance.

We lost a ton of players from the 2010 squad. As the year went along in 2011 we improved. Alonso came off of suspension and found his form. Alonso made a huge difference to our defense. The problem we had with LSU was the middle of our defense was torn up. I mentioned Alonso at Mike but Heimuli and Keliikpi at DT and NT were playing through a high ankle sprain and a back injury. Remington got the start that day at NT. We were playing with Stuckey and Clay at ILB (3-4) and we only had Malone to relieve them who was coming off a redshirt. Gildon at cb was replaced later in the year by IFO.

I could go on an on. Golpashin, a former walk on, got his one and only start against LSU. He was the one with all the leg whips. Hoffman, a walk on, got the start at WR. That was his only start.

The only time it was worse was going into the 2009 season and the debacle in Boise. I think we returned 3 starters on offense.

Thanks for the input duck fans.

As I mentioned before, enjoy watching your team play it's very entertaining brand of football.

You hear nothing but great things about Autzen's atmosphere, and it and Tiger Stadium seem to be in a dead heat for loudest according to decibel levels.

No other southern team travels out west as often as LSU, so maybe a game in your stadium someday happens.

Best of luck to you guy's, unless of course we happen to meet in this new playoff format.

That is far from the story Oregon fans were spewing on here leading up to game.

A lot of what I was saying before the game was that Oregon would be competitive in response to comments that the game would be blow out. I predicted a 17-14 LSU win. That was my prediction. Had I know the suspension to Alonso and injuries to the DL, I would've expected worse.

In reality, Oregon's defense played reasonably well. The offense and special teams put Oregon's defense in a precarious spot time and time again.

Now, I don't speak for other Duck posters.
