The only position on D where talent might be a problem is DT. Whoever is saying this is clueless. Roof, inexplicably, has a bunch of young guys in a read&react D, which of course, they are slow to do...just sit back worried about making a mistake. It is a scheme/strategy problem. That is why AU fans hate Ted Roof.

That certainly doesn't help.

But I've seen SEC (and WAC) offenses toy with that secondary for years now. Since '08, really.

He made good adjustments last year, I'm going to give him credit for that. But he also had a lot of talent to work with.

I feel like tackling is not emphasized and aggressive play in the secondary is just ignored in practice.

Boy, that defense has sure been successful his first 3 years so far.

If he was a good coach, he would've fixed the defense like Malzahn fixed the offense. We had nothing but shite on offense in 2008, and Malzahn turned it into a machine.

No more excuses

Because, from everything I have seen, he doesn't run it. He lets his assistants do their jobs, Just my opinion.

Then maybe he should. Either way, the HC has to bear some of the blame for such a consistently bad secondary and now overall defense.

It seems like they just tell them to let the WR catch the ball, then make the tackle

Talent covered up his bad coaching. I gave him a pass the past two years. No more.

BS. The talent is there. A CB can't do anything playing 10 yds off the WR.

I think I saw only one play in the entire game where our corner played up on the wr on the screen and got off the block to make the tackle for a loss. It was on the drive where they went up by 10. Btw the Ga/BSU replay just came on CSS. I'm gonna watch some real football.

But, we all know that the HC is always to blame even when it's not his fault. We just won a NC so of course Chizik won't be getting fired, but he will be doing the firing here soon. Hopefully.

which is why a lot of Auburn fans are hypothesizing that Chizik takes over the defense at some point of this season, or at least makes an announcement that he'll be involved.

Because y'all are Auburn. Be happy y'all bought a NC last year but don't expect to be a consistently great football team ever or you will just be disappointed.

Remember...Little Brother is what Auburn football is all about.

GTFO, you said Auburn was going to surprised folks and win 9-10 games this season

Mont,

I agree. They got a pass for lack of players the first two years. After two top five recruiting classes, you have to look at the coaches.

I think I may have been wrong after seeing that yesterday. I do think Dyer will do some great things though. Y'all may just be too young this year to get it done.

I think LSU may be the best team in the SEC right now.

Right, you've been looking for reasons to bag on Chizik

Any coach who is hands off like that doesn't have my respect. I prefer head coaches who actually coach rather than let their assistants do it for them. Because once those assistants are gone it's going to be really difficult to find good replacements.

Take Gus Malzahn. Sooner or later he is going to be offered a head coaching job that he can't refuse. How do you replace someone like that? He is, without a doubt, the best offensive coordinator in America at the moment.

Saban is somewhat hands off on the offense but McElwain still runs the offense the way Saban wants it to be run. He still has some level of control over what the plays and schemes will be. I don't think Chizik is the same way and that's not good for the long term success of the program.

I put it this way: If the OLINE is going to play shitty, play the freshman. Dyer and McCalebb had nowhere to run yesterday. I did like seeing Dyer in the WildTiger.

Monticello, I completely agree. Let's look at this backwards: When Gus gets a HC job, will it be because a program covets his ability to be a CEO? Yo make speeches, hire assistants and do Ford commercials? NO! They want his offensive mind like Urban Meyer at UF. Sure, he had an OC but that OC ran Meyer's offense. The same should hold true for Chiz. 3 years of failure for Roof. Gus has the offense covered. Chiz needs to get very, very involved in the D. Failure to do so on his part=failure as a HC.

Btw, whatever dumbass said that Chiz's D in Texas 05 struggled, needs to stop posting. It was the #1 D in the country.

I'm not worried about the O. Our Oline will get better. BTW, damn Trotter looks good. I can see why CGM started him.
