I don't think that's true.
From 1982-2008 McDonnell won 77 of the possible 80 conference titles he could win. This included going head to head against Henry from 1992-2008.
McDonnell won 5 Triple Crowns. UTEP Track is the next closest, having won 3 all time. Oregon has only done it once.

So he had a 10 year head start on a guy he beat. I think it is impressive that he won but beating a guy who just took over a program with a juggernaut isn't all that surprising.
Also, Pat did a weird thing where he ignored the SEC Championship meets for some reason. I'm not sure what his reason was for doing that. Do you happen to know?

No clue why he would do such a thing.
McDonnell paid attention to them all, which is why he won 42 National Championships coaching just the men at Arkansas.
You can argue for Henry all you want, but McDonnell is the best the collegiate level has ever seen. Championships support this at every level. All Americans support this.
McDonnell did things in track and field that no coach will ever top.

I heard a radio interview that he gave where he said that the Championship meet was a certain amount of time after the SEC Championship meet, and that extending themselves at the SEC meet would hinder their opportunity to peak with the national title on the line. I was hoping that the fans of exercise nation might know a little more of the specifics.

Pat Summitt
When you look at the year after year success where sweet 16 or even elite 8 was seen as a down year. Look at a year by year of where she fiinished and it doesn't even look real.

Saban and Bryant is a coin flip for best all time in any sport. List anyone else the best is a rationalization by someone. The end.

Its John McDonnell and there is no one close.
In thirty-six years at the university of Arkansas, he amassed a staggering résumé of accomplishments, including forty national championships (eleven cross country, nineteen indoor track, and ten outdoor track), the most by any coach in any sport in NCAA history. His teams at Arkansas won the triple crown (a championship in cross country, indoor track, and outdoor track in a single school year) a record five times. The Razorbacks also won eighty-three conference championships (thirty-eight in the Southwest Conference and forty-six in the Southeastern Conference), including thirty-four consecutive conference championships in cross country from 1974 to 2008. McDonnell coached 185 All-Americans, fifty-four individual national champions, and twenty-three Olympians. And from 1984 to 1995, his Razorback teams won twelve consecutive NCAA Indoor Track Championships, the longest streak of national titles by any school in any sport in NCAA history.

Seems like an excuse for why he lost.
Arkansas has a history of winning conference and national titles in mens track. It has never hurt the program, thats for sure.
Conference championships is also the next to last chance athletes have to qualify for nationals. Its also the next to last chance athletes have to set records.
An entire team doesn't qualify for nationals. Entries must meet a certain time/distance/height to make the national meet.

I Googled John McDonnell because I honestly didn't know a lot about the guy. He has as impressive a coaching resume I have ever seen.

Well he was in the midst of winning his 27 National Titles, so, I doubt it.

I think he had only won 27 at the time the radio interview was conducted (it was when he was still at LSU).

He is the reason I laugh at Oregon.

Due to its rich heritage, the home of the Ducks is popularly dubbed as Tracktown, USA
They act all high and mighty when it comes to track and field. Yet, they pail in comparison to what Arkansas is and was under McDonnell.
Triple Crowns
McDonnell: 5
Oregon: 1
Mens National Championships
McDonnell: 42
Oregon: 16
It is laughable.

ahh. typical bama homer. if it didn't happen at bama and it wasn't football, it should be diminished.
y'all are terrible. you especially. and Bryant still has saban beat by a long shot.
of course you were too young to know that. and you must not get out much.

I like it when coaches completely turn around a culture and make a non major sport major.
I have great respect for Pat Summitt and what she did for the Lady Vols.
ALso what Sarah and Suzanne did during their tenures.
