I don't see how anyone can see that and name anyone else if you are talking all sports.

Football>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Baseball>>>>>>Basketball>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>all other sports.

That being said and as much as I hate it...
Saban and Bryant are the top 2.

I had never heard of John McDonnell before and after looking him up, dear god. Absolute domination for decades. It is utterly ridiculous what he accomplished during his time. Absolutely incredible.

Gotta be John McDonnell if we're truly considering all sports.

Pat and Skip both benefited from the same thing.

Pat benefitted from the same thing John Wooden did...starting out during a period where the sport wasn't as popular and without anywhere near the parity as later in their careers.

This is the answer to OP's question. You can't argue with this.

The question wasn't which sports are more popular or more important...nobody would argue that the rankings would have Track and Field far lower than Football, Basketball and even baseball.

Fact is, no coach on the college level has ever accomplished what John McDonnell did across his peer group. Ever.

So if the question is about which coach accomplished the most in his sport...then there is only one answer possible.

42 National Championships. Even Bama doesn't claim that many in football.

If the question is which coach do you happen to think is the greatest for whatever intangible reason you have...then fine...state your opinion.

P.S. Never on probation...never donated a nickle to a kid's daddy's church...nothing :).

Pat Summitt competed against maybe three other schools and then a bunch of high school teams. Women's basketball still has an enormous disparity between the top 5 maybe and the rest of the ranked teams, even more so with the unranked.

What Coach Rupp did was much, much more difficult. His dominance is still unmatched. Same for the Bear and what he did in the SEC.

I'm sorry but Tennessee, UConn...who else legitimately gave a frick about women's basketball. No one. Enough with the PC bs.

Bear's greatness isn't limited to just the SEC so there's that. But if you group Pat and Skip with Bear I have no issue with that.

She is in very small company and "great" is a well earned label anytime her name is mentioned. Greatness includes what someone does for their sport, their school, their teams and its individuals. Pat is great in every sense of the word.
