Top D# should be between LSU, AL, or FL... OM =

Bud I hate to tell ya but LSU has some serious holes to fill in several spots and I am not exactly hearing raving things about the LB corp coming out of SP. I know its early though.

Not flaming just saying, you might wanna take a sip of your coffee and think about some things.

Link? No one said OM would have the top D. Just that we could be a top 3.

The 9 starters lost sounds worse than it is, our front seven will be nasty.

Dareus, our best D lineman last year, wasn't even listed as a starter but I think most people understand that he's not exactly a question mark as a new starter.

Chapman, again, he's played A LOT the last two years and when Cody was hurt in 2008 he stepped in and handled things just fine. Kerry Murphy is maybe more talented and is right behind him.

Luther Davis, talented senior, just never had a chance to be a starter yet. We have Damion Square behind him (may actually end up the starter) and Dareus and a boatload of talented RS freshmen.

Our starting 4 linebackers should be Hightower, Nico Johnson, Courtney Upshaw and Jerrell Harris. The only one of those 4 that hasn't gotten a lot of run is Harris.

Our safeties, if Green comes back, will be a strong point. Its just the corners and the secondary as a whole that's the question but there's a ton of talent there. I would rather not play Arkansas as early in the season as we do with our inexperience there, could be the end of that unbeaten regular season streak but I would be surprised if we aren't thought of as a top two defense next year.

Exactly.

People who continue to take comfort in the notion that "Alabama is losing 9 starters" are in for an unpleasant surprise.

yes, and an arky fan mention that OM could have the top D and a LSU fan responded OM's would suck. We've just responded that OM will not suck and could be one of the top D's in the SEC

There will be bright spots on the depth chart but I doubt they will rank as the top defense.

Never said OM woud have the best. I said we would be damn good though. Bama will have the best IMO. After that who knows. But unlike LSU, OM returns alot of talent and experience to the d-line...one small difference between our two situations Farmer Fran

I'm more worried about our O-line.... and maybe the safety position.

last year we didnt have one though

You guys sure are putting a lot of stock into somebody that isn't proven as a Coordinator at the college level yet. I haven't seen any Florida fans thumping their chest about how good our defense will be with Austin. I think it's an unknown on how well both Austin and Grantham will do at this point.

To answer the OP, I think LSU will have the best D.

Kelvin Sheppard (potential 1st - 2nd Round pick with another good year under Chavis)
Joe Barksdale (Potential 1st Round pick, he'll replace Ciron Black)
T-Bob Hebert (2nd Rated Center in 07)
Drake Nevis (9th Rated DT in 07)
Chancey Aghayere (10t Rated DT in 08)
Ryan Baker (7th Rated LB in 08)
Karnell Hatcher
Patrick Petterson (future 1st Round pick)
Brandon Taylor (9th rated CB in 08)
Chris Davenport (4th Rated 5* DT, he might move to OL)
Drayton Calhoun (13th rated ATH, he might be a DB or CB..i dont remember)
Michael Brockers (10th Rated DE)
Josh Down (14 rated DT)
Chris Faulk (4th Rated OL)
Tahj Jones
Craig Loston(1st rated 5*DB)
B. Mingo (9th Rated LB)
K. Minter(17 th rated LB)
Sam Montgomery (6th Rated DE)

Somehow or another you listed some Olinemen who absolutely will not play on defense

I'd expect LSU's defense to be solid... but for them to be elite they will have to firm up on the DL

Barring injuries I'd expect Bama's defense to be solid as well
