Georgia and South Carolina look like the favorites but both are pretty weak on defense. S Carolina is gonna get pushed around on D-Line and Georgia secondary has no chance to cover anyone. I think Georgia is bad QB play away from being the team this year that disappoints the most and goes 5-7,6-6.

You just went full retard.

The QB play across the conference is likely to be relatively weak.

This x10000.

The presence, or absence, of a lot of good QBs in a conference has a lot to do with how well defenses in general appear on paper.

You start out by saying you have so many question marks but then say you might go 6-2 in conference?

See, this is why I hesitated.

We lost a lot of experience, but with the exception of Jordan Matthews and maybe Wesley Johnson, the guys coming in are more talented than the seniors they're replacing. Our staff is new, but it's actually pretty impressive. We have the talent, now, to play with everyone on our schedule, and as you yourself pointed out, there's question marks across the board. Nobody expected us to go 5-3 in 2012 or even 4-4 last year; we get it, it's just the name on our jerseys.

Hmm thats funny I haven't said one word about Tenn's defense but thats ok

Just as Crow said above...Green has played in the Secondary in the past, so it's not like we are just telling a RB to go get some out there on defense. Also Swann doesn't need to be a shutdown corner in order to make our secondary good enough. Sheldon Dawson is the same way. Tray Matthews is a fantastic talent with a year of exp. ( As long as he is not committing theft). Also we are bringing in one of the best Juco DB's in Fentang. On top of all that Coach Pruitt has a great history with secondaries *Cough* FSU?

But there is no denying that the secondary is a major weakness for UGA. Maybe not to the level of "can't cover ANYBODY" but it's a big problem

Then why did you make that statement....

There is a possibility these guys turn out better than I think but on paper you have to admit this is a weakness for UGA. Maybe Pruitt really does make a difference and a lack of great SEC QB's masks the unit enough for them to win a bunch of games. But I just think it's something that keeps UGA from winning the east.

I wouldn't call UGA's defense nasty.

Ugly, maybe. but not nasty!

They should be improved, and they were not as bad as many thought last season. the run defense got to be pretty decent. The secondary? Ugly with a capital "U". They should be improved, though.

The offense could actually be better, though.

Losing Murray will definitely hurt, but most of the other offense is back and (key word here) healthy. We added depth at RB that could help immediately if needed. Hutson doesn't have the arm strength, but seems to be very accurate. Georgia should rely more on it' running game, and that is a good thing. Still have a LOT of good wide receivers. None are dominating, all have good hands with a couple great speed. If Malcolm Mitchell stays healthy this could be a HUGE strength of the offense.

The defense, as i said, is strong against the run and the secondary, we are hoping should be greatly improved. We expect to be able to put a lot of pressure on the QB, so this should help the secondary out a bit.

All that said...I expect for Florida to come on strong and have a MUCH improved year and South carolina should be very good, as always. Missouri is always hard for me to gauge, but should still be strong. Mauck should see to that. Tennessee will be improved also, but still a year at best and probably two years from being back to contenders.

How is Georgia's defense nasty? They were horrible last year and they are going to be starting walk ons in their secondary this year
Well, if we still had Todd Grantham, yes. But since Pruitt is a secondary guy I expect us to improve in the back. As far as LB's and DL go, we will be nasty especially with Rocker at DL.

I don't expect a dominant Defense year 1, but I think Pruitt and Gurley will be enough to take some of that pressure off Mason unlike the pressure on Murray.

I'm sensing tension between the Dawgs and Vols on this thread.

I don't think it is unfair to make this statement. I think the secondary will be better than many on here think...but if Georgia does poorly, I think we will be able to trace it back to the secondary.

I say, GA. We don't hype Mason, but he is a fith year senior and he can get the job done. Our front seven should be great, but the DB's have to do something. I like our chances given the lack of competition in our division this year, but I expect us to "beat each other up".

Fair enough. Who has the best QB in the West? Do you think they will win the West? just trying to understand your logic.

I mean, Miss St and Ole Miss have returning QBs, so it could be argued they have the best QBs. I don't think either will win the West, though.

The best teams in the West the past several seasons (Alabama, Auburn, LSU) have not had the best QBs, but they won the West.

Are you saying that in the East the QB position is the only thing that separates the teams? If so, I can understand your point. However, Georgia has the deepest, and probably most talented running back position in the East. (No offense, SouCar...Davis is outstanding, but you don't have Georgia's depth)

On what grounds do you say this?

1. Horrible last year

2. Lost two of their better secondary players

3. Guys they are counting on like Malcom Parrish and JJ Green are midgets who will have a tough time matching up against bigger wide receivers

Defense? Gators have it full metal jacket. It will be nasty again and just two short years ago we went 11-1...least some of you forgot. Our offense will be much better and Driskel is a r/s junior now. He was completing 69% of his passes before his injury last year. Wrs are more experienced and we now have a TE who will wreck havoc in the SEC.

USC is close, Mizzou and then UGA/Vandy...UT lost their entire OL and DL...a year or two away and they need to be patient with Jones who is recruiting well.

BTW the last time UGA had a fifth year sr qb lead the team was Joe Cox and we know how well that went.

... and the time before that DJ Shockley led us to an SEC Championship.

It could go either way, but this UGA team is better than the team Cox had around him.

True. but Auburn was horrible in 2012...look how they turned their entire team around in
2013.

Shattle Fenteng is 6'2"
Langley is 6'1"
Tray matthews 6'

I think we will be ok.

Auburn, last season only had 1 starter over 5'11', so we will be taller than you guys were last season. In fact, our projected secondary looks taller than Auburn's projected secondary.
(That said, i am not TOTALLY certain who you guys will have...can you tell us who you think will start back there for you and how tall they are?)
