"What a mouthbreather. I can totally see this guy getting busted by the cops for doing donuts in his white Mitsubishi Eclipse in the local Walmart parking lot."
Let's not get carried away with razzing other teams' QBs for getting busted on traffic violations.

USC - upgrade
Thompford is not an upgrade from Shaw.

He was sacked against Bethune-Cookman, WF (4-8), & NC State (3-9). Let's not pretend he was going up against the NY Giants DL

there are videos posted of every pass he took in 2013. (skip past the spring game to get to the in game plays)
coker 2013 at least 4 were drops, another 3 were either tipped at the line or were tipped by the receiver (the int was one of these. A couple were good throws and just had the defender make a good play. 2 were thrown out of bounds because receiver wasnt open. only a few were bad throws. you can tell hes playing with the 2s and 3s in blowouts, oline is porous. Still you can see the potential, with the running ability, big arm. it will all come down to how he learns the offense (which should be very similar to what he already knows from FSU) and not trying to do too much. We dont need him to win the heisman, just be serviceable, dont throw ints, get a few 3rd downs with his feet, and hit some play action down field. If he can do that (and he can) then we will be right in the NC mix just like the last 2 times we replaced a QB. our secondary will be better, especially at corner, our dline will be awesome, our LBs are always best in the league, our receivers are great, our RBs can be the best in the league if the fumbles get under control. We have freaks all over the field and everybody is fired up. SEC fricked basically.
He was average against the likes of Bethune Cookman, Nevada and Maryland, I think the SEC will play him a little differently. Most of his completions were slants and sideline behind the receiver routes, and most of those were poorly thrown. I do not understand the hype.

I really don't either. I'm definitely taking a wait and see approach with Coker. Nothing I have seen from his scrub time play makes me think he is going to be a upper level SEC QB. I hope he is, but that's not based on anything really except hope. I like his size but that's about all I can say right now.

He was part of the team's problem last season as well.
AJ was part of Alabama's "problem" last season? Is this real life?

Even an overwhelming % of bama fans would laugh at this.

The only one that is not debatable for the upgrade is definitely Maty Mauk over Franklin.
Mizzou would've been way better off if Mauk started the whole season.

Yes, AJ contributed to Alabama's poor performances last season too. He threw two picks versus Mississippi State and started the Iron Blow out of sync with his receivers. He made 3 critical mistakes in the Sugar Bowl that resulted in 21 points for Oklahoma.

he had his share of mistakes but saying you wouldn't have him start over anybody we got in camp now would be foolish in my opinion - Coker has gotten good reviews but make no mistake he is going to get the Gmac/AJ first year treatment of "we'll let you air it out ever once in awhile but your primary function is don't turn the ball over"
which in our system, usually works out for us pretty good

Drew Barker will definitely be an upgrade, assuming that they don't try to redshirt him.
I figure he either wins the starting spot or we redshirt him. Honestly I don't give a damn who does as long they are able to open up the passing game enough to keep defenses honest. Whitlow seems like a great kid, but the only way I see him getting the starting spot back is if he by some miracle gains some accuracy and strength throwing. Weirder things have happened at UK's QB position though (see: Andre Woodson and Curtis Pulley).
In the meantime I just envision our QB race as this. Towles definitely on the ground. Barker in the front.

Unless bama figures out the HUNH, the old system will produce a couple of losses. In the past Bama had to stop LSU (similar Offense) and an Arkansas or UGA. When they faced an A&M, Auburn or OU that had an Offense that produced points, they had their problems. With Ole Miss and MSU playing a similar style, I think Saban will have to lean on the QB more next year.

Not worried. You guys on the other hand...

I'm hoping the Florida game teaches us a lot about our team.

That is what you have to admire about Bama fans. All is well until after that first loss, then they go into a panic mode.

Cam made mett into what he became. He will make Jennings into a good QB and have much more time to do it.
