Those are the ones that have always burnt me up. Literally the original reason I had for hating the redneck crowd in HS.

You can't say UF has a lot of redneck fans when were not even a southern state.

Florida is just a ses pool of people from all over the north.

Most folks have no clue. It originated in West Virginia in the wars there around the turn of the century in the coal towns. When miners went on strike the detectives (er paid thugs) were sent in. To keep folks joining the battle on the miners side they wore red bandana's around their necks so they could be seen farther away and not get shot.

Which SEC team has the most redneck fanbase?
How does rocky top refer to beastiality?

"Once there was a girl on rocky top,
Half bear the other half cat.
Wild as a mink, sweet as soda pop,
I still dream about that. "

The Battle of Blair Mountain was the largest organized armed uprising in American labor history and led almost directly to the labor laws currently in effect in the United States of America. For nearly a week in late August and early September 1921, in Logan County, West Virginia, between 10,000 and 15,000 coal miners confronted company-paid private detectives in an effort to unionize the southwestern West Virginia mine counties. Unionization had succeeded elsewhere as part of a demographic boom that was triggered by the extension of the railroad and was characterized by unprecedented immigrant hiring and exploitation in the region.

How it went from this to the current meaning is lost somehow. Probably like "little black sambo" not being black but somehow it was later warped into a derogatory term.
