When was the last time a team won the title with an average defense?

As far as I can remember all the teams in the BCS area had a pretty good defense or at least one star on the defense. I don't see Auburn this year as a championship team because Winston will pick apart Auburn's defense while FSU's extremely athletic defense, which is similar to LSU's, will stop Auburn at least a few times. They will make Marshall throw which will result in INT's for FSU. Auburn will have to play their best game ever to win this game because of their defense.

Guess Auburn is just lucky they have a star on defense.

That 2010 defense was decent enough to hold Oregon to 19 points. They also had Fairley who was a force. This defense is far worse than 2011.

Is that the only outcome? He throws a ton of int's doesn't he?

They held Oregon to 19 points because Oregon hadn't played anyone all year who had the line speed and lateral quickness of Auburn. Bad defense or not, they were big and fast and Oregon wasn't ready for it.

You're underestimating this defense's capability to make plays when it counts. This season wouldn't be possible without momentum swinging stops like the one against Alabama. Our offense will play just fine, as well. Florida State hasn't played even an average offense all year, except for overrated Clemson. We can run all over anyone we want to.

FSU may be on a similair field.

Our coaches made the decision to focus on the read-option during bye week evaluations... Which was the week after the LSU game. WSU, ASU, MSU, and LSU faced a completely different offense than Ole Miss and beyond.

Pretty sure I've heard this line a thousand times this season. The two best rush defenses in the Southeastern Conference couldn't stop our rushing attack. Excuse me for not thinking that an ACC defense will.

Not to go total SEC homer, but I think FSU will really be caught off guard by Auburn's speed/strength combination.

The strength of schedule discrepancy will be a factor, either at first or throughout the game. How many times did we watch Oklahoma or Ohio State tear up their conferences and then get stomped in the BCSCG when they finally played an equal?

FSU will seem like they have 13 men on the field because of their athleticism. Watch any tape of their defense and youll see. They dont care if you csn block because they'll be everywhere on the field.

And to compare 2010's defense to this one is ridiculous. Nick Fairley was a top 5 player that year and dominated offensive lines. Auburn has a few good players but nothing like Fairley

If I'm not mistaken AU had like the 85th ranked defense in the nation.

Good lord boys, I'm on the warpath today.

How, exactly, will FSU make Marshall throw? Will Jimbo yell across the sideline to Gus and say "HEY! Y'ALL HAVE TO THROW NOW!!"

Marshall has 212 pass attemps this year. Not completions. Attempts.

He has 16 more attempts than Justin fricking Worley, who hasn't played a football game since October.

You cannot "make" Auburn turn into a passing team. It simply will not happen.
