Education my man. N. Alabama, N. Georgia and several other Southern outposts did this as well although their Unionism wasn't as strong and far smaller. And you're goddamn right I'm proud of being on the moral side of a war fought over slavery and wealth - your precious rebels treated also E. TN like dogs and did the same to us.

And to blow your mind further, these good men who fought against oppression of human beings, were to a man republicans. In fact, we've been republican longer than ANY spot in the US (comes from our Whig days).

You are a fool. No one, on either side, even knew the war was about slavery until the Emancipation Proclamation, basically. That was just politics.

Your precious drunk General Grant sure didn't want to give his slaves up. Let's not try to pretend the North was a wonderland utopia for blacks, dummy.

Who in the hell do you think introduced slavery to the South and first imported the institution to North America?

It's amazing how some of you have been taught by other idiots that Northerner's were pure, honest, upright folk who loved blacks like brothers and marched in unison with them on every occasion.

Hell, even as late as the 20th century, the largest Klan rally ever held in the United States was on the streets of Trenton, New Jersey.

I don't think Grant was a good man.

And I'm related directly to Lee. Have fun processing that.

When we get to Atlanta this year we're going "Full Quantrill"! We're going to burn Atlanta to the ground, (make a new shirt) watch Bama melt the hardest maybe ever, and fulfill Darius White's promise made before the season of playing in Dallas....the cotton Bowl for a third time in 3 seasons.

Yeah, everyone is related to Lincoln in some way and everyone is related to Lee in some way. In fact, everyone is related; we get it.

I was just dumbfounded at your bragging and admiration of a man, Sherman, who some believe may have even personally picked toddlers up by the legs and beat their heads against trees or walls, or whatever was handy.

It was odd to hear you express admiration for a sick bastard and almost seem like you were tugging at his zipper.

Sherman's Total War wasn't just a cute catchphrase. He allowed his men to rape children, of both sexes, gang rape women 'till they died, cut arms and legs off people and watch them bleed out, etc... just for sport while the men who used to protect them were not around.

And to hear you applauding this behavior against fellow human beings is really telling.

His bro is my great x whatever grandfather. And I'm not white. Apparently my grandparents used to get invited to the Lee family picnic they used to have but never went. I doubt it was much of a multiethnic affair.

I don't believe he's celebrating the evil committed by the Yankees at all. You've got to make a serious non intellectual leap to infer that. Objectively speaking, the cause of the north in his opinion was more moral than the southern cause. I honestly believe it was a push. Lincoln hated Davis and no small part of that hatred resulted in Southern invasion. Both sides had good and evil men. However, the emancipation of slaves was a direct result of the north winning, which was a good thing.

So, your grandparents got invited to picnics by Lee's ancestors, who were also their ancestors, but chose not to go because they didn't like the skin color of the people offering the invitations?

Wow, they were pretty hateful people, I guess. For some ignorant types, skin color is all that matters. Sorry your grandparents were bigots.

It's like they have totally bought what they were taught by their ignorant public school teachers and equally ignorant parents.

Hey, blacks were loved and cherished as human beings in all Northern states and have been forever.

In fact, racism never even existed among Northerners and still doesn't. In another 100 years, everyone will believe that if they repeat it enough.

Revisionist history. The Civil War was about slavery and manifest destiny pure and simple. I guess you could argue that it was about State's rights, but the right in question would have been slavery. The war could have very well been avoided if not for the Dred Scot case.

I taught this subject for years. The real issue is, the perspective of the war is very skewed. From the average southern point of view, they were repelling an invasion and fought accordingly. The standard soldier was not fighting for slavery (Lee could not stand slavery either, for that matter)

Likewise, the Union felt it had no option either. Virginia seceded, if not for some questionable actions by Lincoln, so would have Maryland. That would have put the capitol of the United States in another sovereign nation.

Not really a sports topic, but it is interesting. People in power are the ones with the agenda, while the men bleeding on the field die for something they usually have very little personally invested in.

Urm no, it's not one of those errbody related kinda things, and you'd shite your pants if you knew the truth. At any rate, you seem convinced that I think the North was great or blameless - I don't and never said as such.

The current home of the Klan is MI.

A handful of scattered, disorganized rednecks that have no relevance. It's not like they're getting busted by the FBI in Ferguson for illegal weapons and explosives like a certain other radical racist group.

I hear ya there. I'm mostly white but have multiracial heritage. Folks got around, especially in my area.

The great irony that our neo-confederate friend isn't processing well is that the Lees of VA were very much split on the issue of slavery. Robert was a reluctant Gen. for the Confederacy who did took the post because VA seceded not because he believed in the cause. He was no saint on race (more of a middle ground thinker - eventual emancipation etc.) but he was hardly a dyed in the wool supporter of slavery or the confederate cause.

Slaves in Virginia and the Upper South were no longer working the fields. In VA, they were working factories because Plantations were dead and industry was growing and many around the Upper South had already been emancipated, stolen by slavers/or sold down South. One Tennessee town built a watchtower to keep an eye on the town's children because slavers were stealing whoever they came across and had already stolen people nearby - a wealthy white man built it.

But hey, what do facts matter.
