Just being honest. While I appreciate what The Chief did here at LSU, I think him leaving...along with Brick Haley...was the best thing that could happen for LSU.

If y'all kept the Chief but hired any multitude of offensive coordinators, it would have been much better for LSU. You believing otherwise is delusional.

Not Chavis.

So you prefer a guy who averaged the 5th best scoring defense in America in three years to a guy who averaged the 9th best scoring defense in six years.

I mean I wont argue, but the fact that this is the entire extent of your argument speaks volumes.

The chief's secondary coaching was probably his strong point.

You act as if we haven't had Mark Snyder as our DC the past three years. I'll take the occasional late defensive lapse from Chavis over the utter incompetence of Snyder, and the smile won't leave my face.

You LSU fans have had SO much great defense over the last 15 or so years, you really don't know what it's like to have a truly bad defense. It's why you still point to Chavis as the scapegoat for the 2012 Bama and 2014 Bama games. You ignore that you were only even IN those games because of the defense. You blame Chavis for the loss, as if the inept offense was some sort of innocent bystander.

That's the whole point you're missing. He puts them in the Mustang package and stops playing the defense that got them the lead in the 1st place.

You will learn soon enough.

Two game ending INTs last season came from the mustang package that resulted in 25% of LSU's win total. So. While no final defense is perfect, Chavis's mustang package is better than most.

Clemson had some great recruiting classes under Steele. Some really great ones. Still gave up 70.

Wait, this is good enough for you? I thought you guys wanted to compete nationally.

You think winning 70-80% of the games in which the other team has the ball in a one score game with under five minutes to go is poor?

According to calculator they always use to determine your odds of winning in different scenarios at different times in a game, the odds of winning a game when you are up 3 and the other team has the ball at their own 35 yard line with 3 minutes to go is only 59%. The team only needs to gain about 30-35 yards for a realistic FG attempt, and 65 yards for the win.

One of those INTS was because bo Wallace and Hugh freeze are idiots instead of kicking a fg to tie it they went for the win

I was talking about A&M and Florida. Glad it happened 3 times. 3rd and Chavis is the best defense I've ever seen.

I believe you're thinking of Corey Raymond...

Corey Raymond
Position: Defensive Backs Coach
Hometown: New Iberia, La.
High School: New Iberia HS
Alma Mater: LSU
Graduating Year: 1992
Experience: 3 Years

...the Chief coaches LB's...

Chavis is a great DC. He's a lousy recruiter and his end of half/game Mustang package is maddening. That's all.

And Bo Wallace gift wrapped 1 of those Ints with his stupidity.

Chief is going to fit in just fine in College Station. Just like the A&M fans, he values stats more than actual in game situations which actually effect the outcome of games.

quote:

LSU defensive coordinator doesn’t exactly like the “Third & Chavis” tag that became associate with the veteran coach during his days at Tennessee (1995-2008).

So when a reporter asked Chavis about third-downs during LSU media day, here’s how Chavis responded:

“There was some John or Joe or Jack or Bill several years ago, and he couldn’t find a lot to be critical of so he wanted to be critical of our third-down production. So that’s fine. And let me just tell you where we are, OK.”

“Our goal is 70 percent,” Chavis said. “If we finish at 70 percent on third down, then we’re going to finish probably at the top of the league. There’s no question about that. So, yeah, the opportunity is there to improve.”

“We finished at 75 percent, and that’s pretty good. Eighty percent will put you in the top of the country. So we can improve a little bit there.”

It was always the talk about percentages with him yet when it came down to putting his players in the right situation in games to succeed, he ended up failing many times.

LSU has lost plenty of games over the last 7 seasons, and what percentage would you place on the defense? Seriously. Your offense has been so abysmal, you couldn't have had a better DC and won more than two or three more games. A good OC and QB and y'all might have won a natty without Saban's players for once.

If LSU had kept Chavis we might not have 1 single LB on campus by 2017!!! I'm sure your aware that LSU has more top Ten recruits from Texas commited on D than Aggie does right? I'd be concerned about all the Chavis recruitimg rumors if I was an Ag

I will never forgive the Chief for continually starting DJ Welter.
