If you ever get the chance, go to the one in Greenville. I promise you won't be disappointed.
When I was growing up in South Arkansas, we would drive over to Greenville every Christmas eve and get several dozen tamales and some chili from Doe's. That was our Christmas eve tradition with all of the family

I'm going to take a wild guess here and say that most people who bash on KC BBQ have not even had it before and are just going on their preconceived notion that Southern BBQ is "better".
I've lived in both KC and Memphis. Live in KC right now. I have to say, Joe's KC would be third to BBQ Shop and Rendezvous. Joe's KC is good. VERY good. Just not as good as Memphis BBQ. And I just am not a fan of Jack Stack AT ALL. Bryant's is probably my second favorite in KC, and Gates is a very distant third. There are several in Memphis that I would put ahead of Gates or Jack Stack. And there are at least 2 - Sim's and Whole Hog in Little Rock - that I would put ahead of Gates and JS.

One of the inventors is my neighbor. Not sure if you work with Jason or Aaron.

Very true in St. Louis, whose claim to fame on the BBQ scene is grilled pork steaks covered with Maul's BBQ. Simply terrible.
St. Louis has great italian food though.
As a KC transplant, it's true. St. Louis is best at italian food. Not much in BBQ restrarants. But the reason is, everybody "grills", and it's usually pork steaks. You'd be hard pressed to not find some kind of fire pit/kettle in backyards.
I can't do the pork steaks..too fatty. Gotta stick with the ribs. Mauls should only be used on your french fries.
