Chicken and mutton are BBQ but they simply will never compete with beef or pork taste wise so it is irrelevant.
For somebody who just spent so much time discussing the value of the the proper cooking of beef you must have never experienced a person who knows how to slow cook sheep. Maybe you see sheep as something other than food (insert TAMU girlfriend = sheep joke here) but it is damn tasty indeed. It is why mutton is served plain and you can eat it without all the glop.

Memphis BBQ is definitely good stuff.
But anyone saying KC is the best is simply retarded.

I wouldn't put one region as the best. Each region has different specialties. I was never a brisket and sausage guy until I moved to Texas. I went to some legit BBQ restaurants and realized what all the fuss was about. I am a true convert. Brisket is my favorite kind of BBQ now.
Pork shoulder is an after thought in most Texas joints. It is usually dry and doesn't resemble what most people from the Southeast think of as pulled pork. Now I live in Tennessee. I have had some great pulled pork here. I would put it up with some of the best I have had in Alabama or NC.
When you go to a region, eat what they specialize in. That is how you eat truly great BBQ.

Make sure it's the one in Tuscaloosa.

Good advice. I was mostly introduced to BBQ after moving to TX (so I'm partial to "Texas BBQ").
For those loons claiming brisket isn't BBQ, it's a shame that those east of the MS can't keep "non-BBQ" from showing up in all their joints. On the other hand, what's called "brisket" east of the MS is like a different species from what's smoked in the TX hill country.
Nothing like a good food-fight on the SECR.

North Alabama > NC > Memphis >>>>>>>>> KC

Texas has the best BBQ. At every family event we have, you'll find pork ribs, chicken, sausage, pork steak...and the ole mighty brisket. Pulled pork is okay, but if that is the only definition of BBQ that some know, I'm sorry your life has been empty.

Its hard to anoint a certain area the top when it comes to BBQ. Ive had some really good BBQ in KC(Jack Stack), Memphis(Rendevous), and certainly in Alabama(Dreamland, Archibalds, and countless other BBQ joints in T-town)
Speaking of Tuscaloosa, it is definitely up there(if not the best)in terms of great BBQ restaurants per capita. Heck even the chain BBQ joints are good(Full Moon, Dickies etc).
If you are a fan of Brisket and are driving through Amarillo, TX, do yourself a favor and stop at Tyler's. Amazing brisket there.

I'm going to take a wild guess here and say that most people who bash on KC BBQ have not even had it before and are just going on their preconceived notion that Southern BBQ is "better".
That being said
I've had Memphis and KC BBQ both, and it's really hard to compare the two because they are such a different style of BBQ. Personally, I really enjoyed the ribs that I had in Memphis, but it's hard for me to pick one over the other due to their vast difference.
I will say that I have never seen a list of best barbecue in America that doesn't include at least 1 Kansas City establishment. Even "Southern Living" lists 5 Kansas City establishments in their top 20. Regardless of whether Kansas City barbecue is the "best", it's unquestionably an elite style in the upper echelon of BBQ.

The "brisket is not bbq" crowd is made up of a bunch of fricking retards. When you smoke meats slowly, you are bbq-ing that meat.

People that think SC has shite BBQ go to places like Maurice's or Doc's in Cola and think its all the entire state has to offer. Truth is Cola BBQ does suck
The best BBQ in the state that I've had is in the low country- Cooper's Country Store in Salters (south of Manning) and Brown's BBQ in Kingstree.
Both are vinegar based instead of mustard so you foreigners that can't understand the GOAT mustard should be able to handle it. But both are a ways away so yall wont get a chance to try them anyways
This I live in kingstree. The good bbq in the state of South Carolina is below I-95

I've had BBQ in KC. It is rotisseried gas cooked shite. They slother it with sauce and call it good.
Again, good BBQ, be it pork, beef, or chicken, does not need sauce.

Germantown Commissary might have the best meat in Shelby County, but their sauce is terrible, way too sweet.

imo, the state of Georgia has the best bbq in the SEC with Memphis next. I've never eaten bbq in Kansas city because I always have steaks when i'm there (usually there for one night). the steaks are so good I can't help myself.

False.
The best BBQ in South Carolina is at The Smoking Pig in Pendleton.
BBQ is just one more item on the long long list of things that Clemson does better than USCe.
