Stanford is currently the 2nd or 3rd most competitive school in the country (after Harvard and Princeton) for admissions.

Stanford is more competitive than either in terms of percentage of applicants accepted.

Given our coach, it's safe to say that we're trying. The main problems are greater competition for recruits (Stanford is pretty much on its own level out west, being the only prominent high-academia school with a major football program, and has fewer competitors in general) and the fact that SEC football is a different breed from West Coast football. Some programs have tried to emulate West Coast football to greater or lesser degrees of success, but none have consistently been competitive. So our best bet is also our worst bet -- try to go the Arkansas route, slowly build up a prototypical SEC team, and then get crushed because everyone else is doing it better with better talent.

Honestly, Franklin's success here bordered on miraculous, but it's difficult to say whether he could have sustained it in the long run. I suspect not. So I'm happy with Mason because he seems to be the sort of coach that looks to build on fundamentals rather than exciting plays that other teams can quickly adjust to.

mention, what percentage of the African American majority football players are stoked about the Country Music capitol of the world.

You obviously know very little about Nashville

Stanford has made itself into a consistent contender in Football by recruiting athletically gifted valedictorians from around the country

Maybe because this talent pool is very very limited and Stamford is now getting the lion's share of these players.

Franklin's best seasons were smoke and mirrors at Vandy. You had historically bad years at TN and UF going on, and he avoided all the heavyweights in the west (UA, AU, and LSU). No wins over any ranked team IIRC

California grade schools are notoriously lacking. They are in the same tier as Mississippi.

.........umm. No. And you're an example as to why they are not the same.

high school education difference is the factor

It's not the factor, but definitely something that isn't helping. There are many reasons why Vandy doesn't win, and education is one of them.

There are as many smart people per capita in the south as there are in California. Big difference is that all bets are off when it comes to football. Smart=/=Educated. The southern mentality is 'If the kid didn't get to learn how to multiply fractions, he can learn it after HS...today he focuses on football so our town can win.'

Cali public schools are famously bad: LINK

They dug themselves into a big hole.

...also how do you know I went to Mississippi public schools....and not a private school in south western Louisiana?

Palo Alto>Nashville

I lived in Nashville for 15 years, the comparison to Palo Alto is not even remotely in the same league...

Stanford is much more prestigious than Vandy academically.

An SEC team full of polite, intelligent white boys would be nice.
