MacElwain not reading it? I wonder how many fricking pages the contract was. Goddamn you MacElwain for not also understanding contract law in addition to being a football coach! CURSES!

If you were a college football coach you wouldn't ask your agent/lawyer what your buyout is? I am just a fan and I know the buyout is a big part of the contract. He doesn't have to read it, that is why he pays a lawyer you hope.

Heck the agent/lawyer should have noticed its one of the biggest buyouts ever. The competence of a man is often dependent on the competence of who he trusts to advise him.

Me too!!! Back in my bad days I tried over three threads to troll UF fans about the huge buyout and Foley incompetence. I thought y'all were untrollable.

But here we are in a thread when I was honestly not even asking UF fans about the transaction and I accidentally russtle more jimmies than I thought possible. I am reformed so I won't take advantage of my newfound knowledge of how to crack the Florida nut (y'all are like Auburn fans times 10 basically). But I appreciate knowing in retrospect. That completed my old collection, I now know how to troll every SEC fanbase. Just when I can't use it anymore lol.

Hey, I made a UF fan appreciate Boom one last time today. That made it all worthwhile kinda.

It was a little surprising that Foley got caught on his way to CSU when he was able to get in and out of Austin like a ninja on the Muschamp hire.

I don't like the condition free buyout on Muschamp but Foley is still the best in the business. UF is top 10 in profit and top 10 in overall athletic success every year.

This is undebatable. He is a top AD nationally. But football coaching hires determine the fate of many ADs and he can't afford another bust. I mean maybe UF could afford it money wise, but could he survive it politically?

To be honest, there are only ten or so Gator mega boosters whose opinion matter and I am not one of them.

I don't think he would survive another bust in football.

Jim McElwain walks into a bar. Bartender asks, "Why the long face?"

You know. Because he looks like a horse. A sunburnt horse with raccoon like tan lines.

I guess that is a new angle for criticism we haven't explored.

McElwain hasn't even coached a game yet, what's to make fun of football wise?

You guys hired Sumlin.

He has been nothing special without Johnny and has had 1 great class by rankings out of 4. Cool your jets.

Thank you for admitting you are full of crap, an idiot, and a troll. That was my goal all along. For you to admit those three things.

It would be an awesome thread, but that isn't what I am going for.

Fixed it for you, I am reformed now. I have little want to troll nowadays, it makes the Rant environment toxic.

Coach Mac was an integral part coaching wise of a staff that had the most success in the last 2 decades (since UF with Urban) in the SEC and the nation.

I have no doubt he knew about the buyout for the simple fact that he didn't want every Tom, Dick, & Harry school coming after him every offseason (like Iowa St, or Cincinnati or any other number of random stepping stone jobs he didn't want) so they put out a buyout number that was considered to be unattainable by most schools.

On Foley, no one not even an NFL team or anyone else I don't think would be able to sneak into CSU territory and work out a deal since it is such a small town etc, he did a great job with Muschamp because it was Austin, Texas and a lot easier to conceal and hide there

Bottom line is this, UF wanted him, and had the money so they paid the money to get their guy. He made a team relevant that was an absolute shitshow upon arrival in just a couple years.

I do like my SEC football hard hitting and good D and run game but I also like it being competitive

I get that. So were a few other coaches though. Doug doesn't get the same love.

CSU put a buyout so large it was punitive. Look at it this way, after getting poached two years in a row Arkansas St. put a $2.5 million dollar buyout in the current coaches contract to prevent it from happening a third year.

$7 million was the CSU AD sneaking a fast one past McElwain, and then Foley gave him the leverage needed to make it happen. The oblivious comments McElwain made about his buyout (along with the fact he is paying two million of it) proves he signed up for egregious terms without fully knowing what he did.

He was caught because of flight aware and because his plane was full of UF bags. This isn't a situation where he tried to ninja and failed, he was completely ignorant to how fans track coaching hires on social media.

That was a time before social media was as big as it is today, and before fans lived on flight tracker.

Sure, but given Foley's tradition of being cheap with hires this made the McElwain hire do or die. Foley knows it too, he was very obviously pissed when the press questioned him in the aftermath.

Thank you for the input.
