I thought you were joking, seeing as how all of the warm feelings LSU fans have towards Steele has to do with recruiting. That you were serious makes it even more funny.

You really should crash a Chavis thread sometime, I would love to see your response when LSU fans give Steele credit for 59-0.

And before we get any further off target, thank you Bama fans for giving me an answer with little BS and in less than five pages. I admire y'all sometimes, even if I follow the sport for COMPLETELY different reasons than most of you.

I mean, I don't see the big deal. They're paying Muschamp 6 million to coach at Auburn, what's another 7 to get the coach they actually wanted?

Also - regarding the buyout, even if it had been super ninja negotiations, I doubt UF walked away without paying most of the buyout. Maybe going public cost them an extra mil, but I doubt much more than that.

The real question of this thread, is why do you care?

Bama fans are big fans of the college football that exists between the lines. Yall are a fan of how the sport is played, and y'all prefer a style of play (the bigger more talented team smothers the lessor team) that is more traditional. I will give credit that y'all are much better than most top 10 fan bases for considering new ideas IMHO, and y'all have the least amount of insecurity in the sport which really gives you an impartial view of others sometimes. But y'all want to see talented teams run the ball and play defense, and playing the same set of teams every year is more important than say making Notre Dame (your only real competition) look bad. I am generalizing of course, but there is a certain bend to the mentality of many Bama fans.

I like following the business of college football. I like knowing how much each team is getting paid per year, how long they are locked in a GOR, or how much they paid for a buyout. I couldn't name a dozen defensive packages, but I follow all the GOT stuff that goes on behind the scenes for recruits and money like you follow the games. My biggest melt last year wasn't 59-0, it was when we lost a recruit to Texas. The biggest A&M victory I have felt since the SEC move wasn't 2012 Bama, it was when we (and oil prices) Ronald Reaganed OU into half the facilities they originally needed to have to keep up with us. I mean I enjoy watching the games, but they don't hold the same significance for me when I know most of the time the more talented team will win, and how talented your team is often depends on the behind the scenes GOT bs if you aren't a Bama level program. When I watch the game I prefer to see a lot of points, a lot of plays, a lot of throws and a lot of speed. I think getting an advantage via pacing instead of scheming is more than genius, it makes the sport more interesting.

A thread like this happens because y'all are as disconnected by the business side of the McElwain deal as I am fascinated by it. In fact that is the answer to my question when you get down to it. I couldn't understand defending the hire, y'all are defending the coach instead.

bullshite. Only two buyouts EVER over four million and the other one was after the AD poached a Power 5 coach because the best coach in the game turns him down publicly.

Foley cost himself about three million in my estimate, which isn't a lot compared to the UF budget but is massive on the scale of coaching buyouts.

I care because Foley's ignorance of social media was one of the more interesting AD subplots in a while. Shows how successful he has been in a way that he can be so ignorant about something so essential to many other ADs.

Money is no object. TV and all.
There are no poors in the SEC now.

Let the good times roll. (Tide).

You made an estimate first. I said what mine was in my opinion in response. Who the frick knows what it could have been, the fact that is fascinating is the course of events that lead to over four million total. The point we both agree to is if he would have ninjaed it would have been less.

Honestly not all of the blame IS on Foley, some of the problem was McElwain not reading the contract he signed with CSU.

A lot of the money is split evenly, but Tier 4 deals, merchandise, and ticket sales differ from program to program. Stadium size alone exposes a revenue differences between the haves and have-nots. With that said coaching salaries is one place where pretty much every SEC program is on equal footing.

We respect him? He'd a good coach? By all accounts, he's a good person?

Mac earned it. Smart will be treated the same way if he leaves.

MacElwain not reading it? I wonder how many fricking pages the contract was. Goddamn you MacElwain for not also understanding contract law in addition to being a football coach! CURSES!

Honestly, this conversation makes me so fricking glad Muschamp managed to beat TAMU in 2012. So. fricking. Glad.

Steele was a Bama DC and they don't play defense for him in Chavis threads. I get two titles and all but still.

Not every coach gets the same treatment. Gotta earn it. And we legitimately think Coach Mac can be a good HC. As for Steele, not sure he's gonna be all that good of a DC. I'm sure the defense will be fine though, LSU has almost as much defensive talent as anyone.
