cardboardboxer is not an LSU fan, so you should probably stop repeating yourself.

Steele was a Bama DC and they don't play defense for him in Chavis threads. I get two titles and all but still.

In short the AD telegraphed like crazy that he was going to hire McElwain which made him lose all his leverage when he was faced with the largest buyout in college football history.
Whether it was telegraphed or not wouldn't necessarily effect the buyout, it was contractual. Everyone knew the buyout was $7 million. Even if we hired him in secret, at some point we were going to have to pay CSU.

He has 2 national championship rings and coached a Heisman winner.
His OC has SEC and National Championship rings.
This buys you a lot of credibility. Nothing else matters.
He has something Miles, Richt, Spurrier, Freeze and countless others DON'T have.
But he's not a splash hire...rings
But he came from Colorado St...rings
But he has no personality...rings
But he doesn't run a spread...rings

Many buyouts get negotiated down. Y'all paid pretty much the WHOLE buyout with no discount because the CSU AD knew if y'all said no to him EVERYONE would know who you actually hired was a second choice.
When Foley was caught by the press in Mac's livingroom that probably cost UF a couple million.

Why should we shite all over a coach that left Bama for another job only to return to the conference a couple of years later?
Really? Do you really expect an LSU fan to answer this honestly?

He shite the bed in the 9-6 loss to LSU and Bama got very lucky to get a rematch in the national championship game. And the offense was fricking atrocious in 2009. They were something like 90th in TD% inside the red zone. Javy Arenas and the defense kept giving the team prime field position only for the offense to waste those opportunities and keep settling for field goals time and time again.
