re: What do people truly think of LSU's chances this year?

Question for y'all LSU fans: What are your P & PK positions like?
PK really deteriorated as the season went on last year. The Bama and A&M games were as bad as I've seen it as LSU. We probably beat y'all if our kicker doesn't shank the kickoff out of bounds ith 45 seconds left giving y'all the ball at the 40.
2 missed FGs at A&M made that game seem much closer than it was.
I expect it to rebound this year. ST has generally been pretty good under Les.

Nobody knows who any of those people are.
Roc Thomas, 5*
Jovon Robinson, 5* #1 JuCo RB of all time
Kerryon Johnson, 5*
Peyton Barbee, 4*
I'll give your no name people the benefit of the doubt and call it a draw because you have more and you'll never shut up about it. But don't come crying to me when AU has the leading rusher in the SEC again and the backup has 1000 yards, and Fournette barely breaks 1000 again and is even slower and fatter than before.

LSU has a better RB corps
LSU may damn well have a better quarterback too. Harris may or may not be better than JJ. We've not seen enough of either of them to annoint one as being better than the other.
Gus wanted BH really, really bad, and there's a good chance he'd be Auburn's starter this year if he'd picked them instead of LSU.
Our MLB is much better than anything Auburn has, and our two starting OLBs are about the same level as what AU has. The only thing we're lacking there is depth.

I think LSU has as good a chance as ANY school in the nation to make the playoffs. anybody who says different is just showing their bias; the talent is there.
but football games are played on the field and the competition is severe. it takes talent, mental and physical toughness and a break or two to rise to the top.
the best teams, esp. at years end are not always the ones at the top. the 2006 LSU team and the 2007 Georgia team (I think that's the year; they played Hawaii in the Sugar Bowl) are perfect examples. I think either of those teams would have won a NC if they made a playoff. but it took them awhile to gel and they didn't get the break they needed so they lost a game that would have made all the difference.

People who follow football know who the nation's #1 overall recruit from 2014 (and LSU freshman rushing record holder) is and know who the nation's #2 RB recruit from 2015 is.

We get that you're some ignorant inbred frick, but you at least have access to the internet. You try to have a serious discussion and don't know anything about the team you shite on. fricking brilliant.

I hope that you really think that.

Gus actually completely stopped recruiting BH once he saw him play an actual game.
Not according to the NFL. The top two MLB prospects are both from the state of Alabama. Scouts are saying Cass McKinzy is better than Benardick McKinney from MSU last year.
Again, doubt it. Both of Auburn's OLBs were 5*s. One is a 3 year starting senior.

Beckwith > McKinzy

As if HS rankings matter.
Deion Jones and Lamar Louis will be some of the best OLBs in the SEC. Both are seniors and have played a ton.

Riiiiiiiight. If you say that to yourself one million times it will still be false. Auburn has a great squad but the talent disparity is negligible. You could have said LSU will be tough in another year or two but even if they get solid QB play, they will be too thin in the trenches to win the west this year and would have sounded like someone reasonable. That's debatable at least. You went another way with it

No flame, I don't think much of LSU this year.
On offense you have no QB and an overrated RB. Your strength is WR, but who will get them the ball enough to make plays?
On defense I don't think it will be the typical LSU defense people are used to and LSU fans are hoping will bail out the offense. You have a couple elite guys and the rest are just average SEC players. You're a small step above what people tear Ole Miss down for.
To be honest, this is what most people outside the LSU local circle see and I would expect the same having that intel. However, CLM and staff have vastly improved those weak areas and the other areas of the game should be as good or better than last season. Therefore we are not picked very optimistically but recently some of the national media have looked deeper into LSU and revised their predictions and started to call for LSU to be a sleeper pick.
Two big differences this year. The QB/WR/TE play will be much better in synch this year. All were too green last season. The other is that CLM turned the negative of losing Chavis into a positive with his hires of Steele and Orgeron.
See ya in TS!

depends on QB performance imo

QB: Push - Both Jeremy Johnson and Brandon Harris have tremendous physical gifts. Neither have done shite at the college level.
RB: LSU - Leonard Fournette, the #1 overall recruit in 2014, rushed for 1000 yards as a true freshman. Roc Thomas, the #23 overall recruit in 2014, rushed for 200 yards as a true freshman, 100 fewer than Darrel Williams, the #250 overall recruit in 2014.
WR: LSU - Duke Williams is the only legitimate receiving threat Auburn possesses... and he trailed LSU WR Travin Dural in receiving yards, touchdowns, and yards per reception. Behind Dural, LSU boasts the #2 WR for the 2014 class, Malachi Dupre, who, as a true freshman, had 300 yards and 5 TDs and Trey Quinn, the #10 WR for the 2014 class, production equal to Auburn's second leading returning WR, Ricardo Louis.
TE/FB: Auburn - With the dismissal of Melvin Jones and graduation of Connor Neighbors, LSU has no heir apparent at the fullback position, and the tight ends, while talented, have not been utilized in the passing game in even a complimentary role since Richard Dickson in 2007.
OL: LSU - Highlighted by future 1st Rd pick Vadal Alexander, the line returns 3 starters from last year's unit, which despite no threat of a passing game, paved the way for an average of 269 ypg on 51 carries the second half of the season. While not lacking for talent, it will be interesting to see how Auburn's OL adjusts to the new downfield blocking rule.
DE: Auburn - LSU has no proven commodity on the line and must replace both starting defensive ends from 2014. We may very well be asking true freshman Arden Key to make an instant impact in pass rush.
DT: LSU - Christian Lacouture and Davon Godchaux were constantly in opposing backfields in 2014. Once both players were inserted at DT, opposing teams failed to rush for more than 4.0 ypc and fewer than 140 yards on the season.
LB: Push - Kendell Beckwith and Lamar Louis are roughly comparable to Cassanova McKinzy and Kris Frost, and neither team has a clear option at the other OLB spot.
DB: LSU - no explanation needed.
Coaching: Auburn - As much respect as I have for Miles, Cameron, Raymond, and Orgeron, the pairing of Malzhan and Muschamp is terrifying for opposing teams.

Good post, chilge1. I would give the edge to Auburn at QB, and I think coaching is closer to a push.

No way LSU goes to the playoffs this year.
