I went to games and said shite to myself such as:

"We've got them, this year."
"Damn refs."
"They cheat."
"If only [insert name here] hadn't gotten hurt."

Etc....

ETA and I drank, heavily.

For Bama fans that do not derive their self worth from how well the football team does life has not changed much. Bama was Competive enough to make football enjoyable for them.

The other 65% of Bama fans were incredible to watch. Instead of feeling like they are worth something because their team is good now, they were putting a lot of stock in how good Bama was before they were born.

You actually have to go back to the mid 50s when Ears Whitworth was roaming the sidelines to have experienced truly poor football fortunes, and I remember that time...actually sold peanuts and cokes at the games.

This whole "the fanbase was little then now all the bandwagoners" notion is just weird.

Were any of you alive from 1997-2007? There were a billion bammers then just like there are now. We took tons of people on the road and we filled our stadium. The only difference was we all irrationally thought this coach was the one to get us back or this was the year or the NCAA hated us.

Seriously, they were irrational and annoying, but the fanbase (in-state at least) was probably 90-95% the same as it is now. Anyone saying otherwise is just living some sort of weird revisionist history.

I was in school from 2003-2008 (undergrad and grad) and we went to 75% of road games and took our lumps and listened to the laughter and finger pointing.

Then in 2008 and 2009 we partied like it was 1992 biatches.

They won as many SEC titles as y'all did during that span.

Right...

But do you think they settled for admitting we were equals or that they were inferior for going 7-10 against us during that time period?

Point still stands.

At least now Bama is the shite, so dealing with them is much less of a hardship if you ask me.

This debate keeps popping up here for some damn reason.

Auburn is better than LSU, except for the fact that LSU has more of pretty much everything meaningful, team accomplishment wise

Good stuff. Even in the Hallman days, LSU was still historically better
