I'm a stats and demographics person by nature and somewhat by profession. The number includes all of UMMC, btw. Not just nursing.

Here's your last year numbers for comparison.

Its confusing. Its like saying Arkansas has 45,000+ students, which technically it does. Those diplomas say University of Arkansas on them, just like the ones in Fayetteville.

We have over 26,300 students on the Fayetteville campus. Hell, we have 300 or so University of Arkansas Medical School students in a UAMS satellite campus in Fayetteville, a half mile from the main campus and don't count them in our UA-Fayetteville numbers. They are part of UAMS. We're opening a PT school next year in Fayetteville, but those are still considered UAMS-NW rather than UA-F.

An 800 student jump at Ole Miss is nice, especially when enrollments around the country are generally shrinking. But its much less impressive when its spread among 5 campuses. Arkansas added 1000 more students on the Fayetteville campus alone this year.

People who graduate from Mississippi colleges get jobs out of state. It's called the brain drain effect.

Or they started out of state, couldn't get in anywhere good because they were super dumb, but went to Ole Miss and they were still the smartest thing there, and returned home when they graduated. It's a compounding effect. Mississippi sends dumb kids to get educated because that's all they have and they aren't smart enough to go anywhere else... But they accept out of state kids who are bottom of the barrel in other states but then steal all the education.

I'm assuming that's including the Jackson campus and satellites. What is the number for Oxford alone?

Average Act of 24 isn't super dumb, it's just not good enough to get into Texas or ATM, but isn't class rank more important in Texas? Top 10% in class get automatic admission?

If I asked someone what LSU's enrollment was, I wouldn't expect them to add in the students up in Shreveport, for example.

OU does the same thing. I used to think they were a larger school than Arkansas by far. In reality, they report system rather than main campus on all of their releases. Its dumb and I don't know why they do it. Its misleading.

People want to know how large a school is for various reasons. Locating a business nearby, whether or not its "too big" for their personal taste, etc.

I wish college enrollments would start stagnating. A decent portion of these people do not need to get a degree. Go learn a trade.

That doesn't make Ole Miss unimpressive. That's just damn good work from Arkansas. Increased enrollment post education bubble means you're doing something right.

Yeah, that garbage is still in effect. Texas, of course, managed to limit the amount they needed to accept under that rule.

It's dropped some good students and worthless assholes in Oxford. Hard to complain about the money they bring, though.

Damn near kept me locked out of A&M. Going to a good academic high school shouldn't make getting into a public college more difficult.

I think if the US manufacturing/industrial base had not been off shored many people going to college may have in turn went to work in their local factory/steel mill/textile mill, etc. Many people going to college today would not have been considered college capable 30 yrs ago but this is where we are, telling everyone to go to college and if you can't get a job to pay off your loans well you just need some more education.
