Pre-season polls are all about who they think is going to be in the playoff. That is what sells magazines etc. There is not one poll that will have 3 SEC teams in the top 5 when it comes out

Preseason polls are flawed by definition. Not saying they will or should. People vote for there preseason polls differently. It should be who the person believes is the best teams going into the season regardless of conference. The games themselves will work everything out.

Probably true. To me it has to be who you think will finish the year 12-1 or so and win their conference/fight for the playoff.

Top 5 is a little much for Tennessee but I think they finally deliver and go 10-2, 11-1 and back to the SECCG.

If they don't, we can seriously consider if whether the 90s-early 00's was a fluke.

Tennessee will win the East. Either 'Bama or Ole Miss will win the West. At least one of those three teams will be in the playoffs next year. Outside chance two of them will. To the LSU fan that talked about Ole Miss not winning the West or making the playoffs, this was Freeze's fourth year, building the program back from Nutt's 2-10 'showing up for his paycheck' disaster. Steady progress with 7, 8, 9 and 10 wins and two NY6 bowls. Recruiting class now ranked #1. OM will have other chances to 'live up to expectations.' This was Miles's 11th year. The playoff system has been in place for two years. LSU has yet to make even a NY6 bowl. What's his excuse?

So maybe it wasn't a fluke, but Rodney Garner stealing recruits from Tennessee is part of the reason for the death of Tennessee for almost a decade in football. It looks like the resurgence is going to happen, but Tennessee football had been pretty much dead for 10 years.

2014 LSU had been completely depleted all over the field. Losing that many early entrants to the draft the past 3 years finally caught up to them. This year there was no excuse. Him getting drilled by Arkansas and Ole Miss was unacceptable

Neither LSU, OU, nor Tennessee have done ANYTHING this year to prove they belong in the top 5.

You realize this is about next season, right?

By the way, I don't think LSU should be in the top five.

lsufball19: How hot do you think Miles's seat will be? If he doesn't win the West, is he gone?

Ole Miss' defense wasn't that great this year, and you lose your two best players from said defense

We didn't have Tony Conner for most of the year. We will have to replace some guys for sure but I like our chances to plug in some new guys waiting in the wings and step up.

i mean i wouldn't go that far, and based on how political it got trying to get rid of him this year, who knows with the clown show going on over there. miles certainly needs to make sure lsu is more competitive in games this year, though.

I just don't see how you can say Ole Miss will for sure have a great defense next year with so many unknowns at this point when you weren't a great defense this year. If Kelly comes back Ole Miss will be among the preseason favorites for the playoffs, but I just don't see defense being a team strength for Ole Miss next year.

I actually think the team played better without either of the Nkemdiches. They had some off the field issues which everyone knows about now. Too bad, but OM didn't get their best efforts this year, yet still was one fluke play away from winning the West. I'm not concerned about the 2016 team's ability to play good D. You heard it here: Chad Kelly WILL return for his senior season. He has a chance to be the all-time SEC yardage leader, win the West and compete for the Heisman. In one season, he passed up everybody (Tebow, Prescott) except Manziel. He'll greatly improve his NFL stock by leading the team again. And even if Treadwell declares, there are plenty of experienced WR's--Adeboyjo, Stringfellow, etc.--to help him sling the ball around.

LSU makes no sense. Tennessee either. Setting ourselves up for a repeat of this season.

I think we'll be a damn good team next year, but we should not be in the preseason top 5.

He also has the chance to be a high draft pick this year, especially with the lack of great QBs coming out. I think his Sugar Bowl performance will definitely have him at least thinking about it. I think we, as fans, sometimes overestimate how much players really care about college championships or awards or loyalty to the school. Some obviously do (Peyton Manning, for example), but most are just using their school as a stepping stone for the NFL. I'm kind of numb to that at this point

Uncle Jim will give him the best advice on the NFL. My take is that Uncle Jim will tell him he needs to fine tune some things: making better reads, cutting down on the INT's, etc. Freeze gave him a second chance twice: first to pick him up after being kicked off the team at Clemson and then after that bar incident in Buffalo last summer. The guy has played by the rules at Ole Miss--no hint of any trouble. Freeze has made the difference, and I think he'll pay Ole Miss back by returning. Plus, I can tell you this much: on Feb. 22nd, he and Uncle Jim will be addressing all the heavy hitters at a special breakfast. Their subject will be The Future of Ole Miss Football. Deadline for declaring will have long since passed. I know there are rival fans out there that want him gone, but I don't see that happening.

I was thinking Tenn should be in the 8-12 range, kind of where I feel OSU should be going into the season
