I'm still confused on what you guys are missing here. The stats are out there to look at on page 7. Compared to other QB's he falls short is several categories. That's a fact.

Ok?
And in many categories he excels.
What is it you're looking for, in terms of a response?

Acknowledgement that he has weaknesses in his game, which is all I've ever said.

Of course he has weaknesses in his game.
He said that very thing in his interview today w the espn guys.
It's the very reason--according to him--he went to work with "Coach" Whitfield out in San Diego.
He also said he's a "coachable kid" who wants to learn from the NFL coaches.

and I really respect him for that. He's worked very hard and has a great work ethic from everything I've read. He was commended for working on pre-snap calls since he didn't make those in college.

Big thumbs up from Kurt Warner on Johnny Manziel's Pro Day. "Deep plays he made on the run . . . those things don't happen every day."

Warner said 20 guys (who are starters) are in the NFL can't make deep throw on the run like Johnny Football.

quote:

“I can’t tell you how happy I am with everything Johnny did,” Whitfield said. “It was his idea to do it wearing a helmet and pads. He put on the armor because he was in full attack mode. All the feedback I’ve gotten has been incredible.”

quote:

There were 75 NFL officials at Manziel’s pro day, including eight head coaches and eight general managers. The only teams not represented were Chicago and Cleveland. The Browns have scheduled a private workout and interview with Manziel.

“He made every throw, and he was well prepared,” O’Brien said. “I saw every throw I needed to see. He was very impressive.”

This is the best thread on the rant in a couple weeks. I LOVE how this UGA tool is basing his entire anti-Manziel argument on a single chart that supposed charts how he did against hurries, knockdowns, and scrambles. Who the frick went through all this film and got the raw numbers? Not me! What I do know is that he had the best pocket passing completion in the whole fricking country, and that, according to that chart, he was the best scrambling QB of the three listed.

The other two categories? "Hurried" Who he hell decided what counted as a hurried?

"knockdowns?" Manziel was 4-9. Statistically meaningless sample size.

That chart is totally fricking irrelevant. The only way it is relevant in the slightest is scrambles, which Manziel tried hard not to do this year. And he played two games with a broken thumb. And he was still the best of the three listed.

I am starting to feel cautiously optimistic that the Texans draft him.

This is not relevant to what the Texans are going to do, but here is what Jerry Rice thinks about Manziel:

quote:

"He reminds me a little bit of Steve Young because Steve Young, when he first came in, he wanted to run the football," Rice said on NFL Network's "NFL Total Access." "Now, with Johnny Manziel if he can just relax, stay in the pocket, deliver the ball down the field with accuracy and get the ball in the hands of his playmakers, I think it's a no brainer for the Houston Texans to take this guy."

Those stats are interesting but they are also skewed against Manziel's style of play. Mainly because they completely ignore all rushing by the QB. You could argue of course that Johnny won't run as much in the NFL but that is also a theoretical discussion on what he may or may not do or what he may or may not have done in the past.

For instance, take plays when Manziel was rushed or hurried. Some of his passing stats aren't as impressive but why? Teams didn't rush Manziel as much because they knew he could escape pressure and rush for yardage. Outside of a few plays during the year he was also good at avoiding contact in those situations. Many times when he was "hurried" he and didn't have a running lane he threw the ball away as well making his passing stats look worse even though he was making a good football decision.

The other QB's for the most part are all far more traditional pocket passers that have nothing close to Johnny's ability to make things happen with his feet so you can look at them more by passing numbers to evaluate them. For Johnny though he was so difficult to stop in 3rd down situations for instance where a defense would normally blitz a QB but they had to be very careful in doing so with Johnny because he was likely to make one move and get a 1st down rushing. Johnny just puts immense pressure on a defense because they have to account for so many things simultaneously when he is on the field.

So if you are just wanting to look at accuracy of the QB's you have to look at the larger picture of their passing numbers to get a somewhat accurate view and even then it skews against Johnny because he was such a good runner. Even so his passing numbers overall are superior to the others, especially when you consider quality of competition. Did a QB like Carr for instance face more than a couple of NFL quality DB's all season? Even Bortles and Bridgewater really only had a couple of games against defenses that would be in the Top 10 in the SEC.

What I've seen in games as well.

and the fact that mobile QB's don't tend to do well in the NFL.
