In 1996, FSU beat Florida 24-21 in the last game of the regular season. Nebraska lost in the Big 12 title game and Florida got a rematch in the national title game, blowing out FSU 52-20.
I was only 10 years old when that game was played and I am curious if it was as controversial as the LSU/Bama rematch was. The scenarios are eerily similar with a close game followed by a blowout in the rematch.
I'm not old enough to remember, but it's different because it wasn't a really a national title game.

It would be awesome if the same scenario happened again this year in reverse order. I'm sure Nov. 3rd will likely be the biggest game of the year in college football, and it would be fitting for bama to come into TS and squeak out a win over LSU...then turn around for the rematch in Miami. I would love to see the gump nation implode should that happen and LSU wins the NC. Make no mistake about it, had the roles been reversed last year, the gump nation would have imploded even more than they did on Nov. 5th.
Exactly. The sec hasn't played the sec in a bowl game in 60 years but because the gumps thought it was their year, screw that.

they had to beat a top 10 team in their state for the right to play Bama.
Actually it was pretty popular belief that LSU could've lost to UGA and still gone to the BCS championship game. I guess LSU would've turned down the invite if that happened though since their fans have such a strong belief that you have to win a conference to go.
I would also like to know if any of the shirts you own have sleeves btw. Gator asked a good question.

So you willingly admit that is a mirror pic of yourself in your avatar?

That would be incredible. I can't imagine this place if LSU lost to Alabama twice next year. Granted we probably wouldn't have the chance, you people will probably burn BR to the ground and turn South Louisiana into a full blown third-world country if Alabama beats you in Tiger Stadium in November.

Also I've always wondered if fatasses beat off to cook books? Do you?
I typically don't make it to the cookbooks, I usually can't control myself around the picture of Finebaum on my dining table.

I think that's painfully obvious.
I wish I could be his wingman just to get the scraps at all those hot clubs in Murfreesboro, TN.
I wonder if he cut the sleeves off his "I'm a panty dropper" t-shirt?

Was the '96 FSU/Florida national title rematch as controversial as '11 Bama/LSU?
It just goes to show that a playoff is sorely needed. IMO, at least an eight team playoff, include the 6 BCS conference champions and 2 "at large" (wild card) teams. If a conf. champion is not ranked in the top 20 BCS, they lose their spot in the playoffs and another at large spot opens up.

What rubs Lsu fans the wrong way is the fact that the game of the century was supposed to tell who was going to the ship. Bama lost then started crying and begging for a rematch.
I think the "re-match" talk began in the national media the next day when the new BCS poll came out showing Alabama at #3 in the standings with a whole month left to play in the regular season. All that had to happen were a couple of upsets. And guess what, those upsets happened. Alabama didn't rank themselves at #2 at the end of the season. The computers, coaches, and media members all thought we deserved to be in that game.

Not one computer ha Bama 2. Not one. So the unbiased aspect of the vote had Bama NOT AT 2.

But, for the sake of facts, two of the six computers actually did have Alabama at #2. Maybe you're thinking that even if every computer had put Alabama at #3, which you mistakenly said a few times, Alabama would still have gotten in because enough people who actually watch football knew Alabama was one of the top 2 teams in the country.
