I did a bit. Basically, one of the reasons I put the QB at a draw is having to up against more a pocket/pro passer actually plays to UGA's strengths in the front 7. I also said that both WR/TE combos are likely superior to the other's DBs. And while the USC OL is likely superior they have to go up against UGA's biggest strength.

To be honest, I have no idea what to think of Mason. He did bring UGA back on the road against GaTech, but then he looked utterly lost in the bowl game, although it was actually Lynch that dropped a good perfectly good pass that ended UGA's final rally. It was also a miserable cold, rainy day in a mid-tier bowl game so likely most were just waiting to get home.

Has he ever played a game start to finish? I know he's played spot duty and traded series but I wasn't sure if he's ever started a game.

At Clemson in 2012 (23-41, 310 yds, 3 TDs, 1 INT). Maybe some others... he had 32 attempts against UCF but didn't start the game.

EDIT: Pretty sure he played the entire game against ECU, too, one year. 21-37, 330 yds, 3 TDs, 0 INTs.

Probably the most important advantage in this pretty even match up goes to Carolina...the game is at Williams-Brice.

Honestly this sums up this entire match up. In fact, the fact that this will be Mason's first true road start in a loud environment (bowl doesn't count) makes it an even bigger advantage for USC.

He started and led us back from a 20 point deficit at Georgia Tech.

Your own fans have been known to buy GT season tickets just for this game. UGA playing at Bobby Dodd us technically an away game, but it's hardly a "true road start." W-B is the toughest place Mason will have ever started by game time. You can't really argue against that.

Yes it is. It's a high pressure in-state rivalry game that was started under less than ideal circumstances with Murray having just gone down. UGA fans buying season tickets is a symptom of the intensity of the rivalry and the apathy of Tech fans to their other games. Tech fans are far from apathetic about the UGA game. Trivializing that experience is dumb.

It is, but Mason is also way more prepared for that environment than he would have been last season.

Yes it is. It's not Death Valley at 8 pm but it's a true road start.

No one here is arguing that. We're just saying that playing a road game at your in-state rival is a "true road start". I can't believe this is even a discussion to be honest.

UGA lost only Garrison Smith (starter) and Jonathan Taylor (3rd team) from last year:
Sterling Bailey
Mike Thornton
James Deloach
Ray Drew
Toby Johnson
Josh Dawson
Chris Mayes
all return with ALOT of game experience.

Did any of these guys have more than 3 Sacks last year? I know Ray Drew was the #2 DE out of HS the same year that Clowney came out, but I haven't seen or heard of him besides the past couple of preseasons.

So while your so-called greatest strength goes up again our well-known greatest strength ... you still have yours as winning the match-up and being superior.

We shall see I suppose.

FWIW, this will probably be SCAR's most talented, deepest, overall DLine ... so I guess your OLine is rated higher in that match-up as well huh?

Not having past stats doesn't mean Mason isn't on Thompson's level. It means he isn't as good as Aaron Murray. You have no real way of knowing if Thompson is better than Mason.

I'm saying it's a safer bet to say Thompson is better, b/c he has already proven he can win. Like I said, he's beaten 3 ranked teams, all on the road.

You have no way of knowing this. You're basically saying USCe's unknown is better than UGA's unknown, which is as homer as it gets. Anyone on either side who claims a definitive advantage in this department is being ridiculous.

SC plays 5 DB's (2 Corners, 2 S's and a Spur.) We had 3 S's get a lot of playing time and even started various games (Elder, Marcus and B. Williams.) We moved B Williams to CB. That means our starting lineup will have 3-4 (depending on how you look at it) returning starters out of the 5 in the backfield.) We were a Top20 Pass Defense last year. So yes, I can say we're going to be better than UGA with our DB's, we were last year and most of those guys are back this year.

If our run defense is as weak against y'all as it was last year it won't matter if the game is at the Brice. Shite we couldn't even stop the white dude from running through us.

No, it's 3 any way you look at it. None of those three (Elder, Marcus, Williams) can count twice It's not like those guys are world beaters either.

You lost both of your corners. None of your returners have played there before. It's a huge hole, no matter how you look at it.

UGA returns 4 DBs who have started multiple games (Swann, Moore, Dawson, Mauger) , but we aren't claiming this crap because it's admittedly an unknown.

OK, so you have 1 returning starter, (Swann) and we have 3 (B Williams, Marcus and Golightly.) Our 3 guys were part of a Pass Defense ranked 12th nationally and your 1 guy was part of a Pass Defense that ranked 60th nationally. We both had guys on the 2 deep that played.
So like I said, SC has the advantage at DB and it's not even close.

Maybe I'm just jaded by y'all's pass defense being dogshit against UGA, but returning Williams, Marcus, and Golightly just doesn't seem to hold much weight.

You still don't have any corners. At least UGA has what little experience is left distributed throughout the secondary.
