Hasn't beaten state or A$M. Lost to tech and Toledo. Boy he's tearing it up. We can't field a O line and we have a shaky at best QB with no experience. Could be a long year

Didn't you lose a ban bet or did you forget?

Yeah, and they all have strong opinions. It's a special kind of arrogance to argue with someone over something in which they know much more than you.

That argument really doesn't work considering we could have easily won 3 other games: Toledo, A&M and Mississippi State.
I don't think you can point to a single play in each of those games that, had you executed it, would have won it right then and there.

There were three plays in o/t in the AU game - two 4th-downs and a 2-point conversion - in which an incompletion on any one of them would have ended the game with a loss. And of course if not for the ultimate WAOM moment, 4th-and-25 would have been the last play of that game as well.

Even with one of the most productive QB/RB combos in your school's history, you were literally two plays from your third losing season in 4 years.

ETA: I checked, and you can make the argument that a completion against Toledo on the last play would have turned that one from a L to a W. Other two games would have required multiple plays to go your way at the end.

It's way too long for me to put in the time to read it. Can you please write a 4 paragraph synopsis?

Congrats to us for winning a couple of close games? Thanks!

How many plays away from losing to FCS Jacksonville State was Auburn, whom Toledo and TTech would beat by 30?

Are you joking? The Mississippi State was a one point game that we lost on a blocked fg. We could have scored on the drive or just blocked well and made it. How is that not a single play? A&M game you could make the argument of a turn over in OT but I'll leave that one alone. So once again your argument doesn't really hold any merit.

I don't understand why people bring arguments to the table without even doing research beforehand

I thought the WRs Petrino recruited did well when he was their but he does a great job of making QBs and WRs look good .

He does! The "QB guru" made Jacoby Walker, Brandon Mitchell, and Jim Youngblood look much better than they really were. Don't get me started on the receivers that weren't instate kids he recruited. Some of the 118 he signed actually contributed!

So, guys, I've been drinking and reading this thread on my phone. Some of my upvotes turned out to be downvotes - y'all figure it out.

Who are the key players from Petrino's 2 good years at Arkansas ? Didn't he recruit both of the starting QBs and the QB that has starter for Bielema in all 3 of his years at Arkansas ? Didn't he recruit joe Adams , Wright and Childs the 3 WRs that did so good for Petrino? Did he not recruit the key players on Arkansas' best defense under Bret? Did JLS not recruit the starting RB that missed last year with a injury? Who are the key players that Bret recruited ?

Yes but Allen wasn't going anywhere else. He is from fayetteville and I don't see how any coach wouldn't have grabbed him.

Yep and Hamilton. Those were some great WRs but his recruiting showed after he left. Had some very mediocre players behind them.

No one is going to question Petrino's ability to build a strong offense and call plays. His issue was depth and lack of focus on defense. I also question his ability to hire assistants. There were some teams that we were never or almost never going to be able to beat because of his offensive philosophy.

I would take Petrino back in a heartbeat if you could promise me no character issues. That is a huge IF. Petrino had be fired for what he did to the AD.
