I'm not sure how anyone, not trolling, can call Steele an upgrade. You hired a position coach that was fired or demoted from his last two DC jobs. If you want to talk recruiting, then yes, you it's an upgrade.

He's a great recruiter, but Alabama wasn't missing a beat while he was gone from 2009-2012.

Well great then, we needed another great recruiter. And, you didn't skip a beat those years he was gone, but he also wasn't coaching at the school that gives you your toughest match up year in and year out. It will be advantage to us.

Oh so Steele has had bad games where he doesn't make adjustments?

It isn't just that he had a bad game where he didn't adjust, it's that in the entire MONTH leading up to a bowl game he failed to realize that the initial gameplan he intended to go with was 100% going to fail.

There is a difference between making bad decisions on the fly and being so clueless that a terrible game plan never even gets a second glance despite a month of preparation.

I disagree, I think the Wendy's double is way better than the mcdonalds double QB with cheese.

And besides, at Wendy's I can get a frosty.

Frosty > any mcdonalds milkshake

Great offseason thread

You guys are trying so hard to make yourselves believe in Kevin Steele it's funny and sad.

It's crazy how many fans have forgotten how sketchy this hire was. I'm very skeptical but we will see. Everyone believes they're going 15-0 right now.

Whoa whoa whoa.

Wendy's cheeseburgers > McDonald's cheeseburgers

We all know that.

Well, you can't argue with that really. However, this is where we have to believe that he has learned a great deal since then.

This is fairly reasonable, but I would argue that nearly two decades worth of evidence makes one suspicious he has learned a whole lot.

LSU's talent really is too great for him to completely fail immediately, so we may not know for a couple seasons.

I don't think you'll find many non-LSU fans who would take Coach O/Steele combo over Chavis. A transient rise in recruiting for a program that is already consistently the second most talent in America just isn't worth the drop off in actual coaching ability.

You may want to re-watch LSU vs. ND then. ND doesn't run anything remotely complicated to defend yet Chavis refused to keep an eye on the fricking QB. That was kind of his thing last year.

I'm just curious how many of these LSU fans were dancing in the street and cheering when Steele was announced as their new DC. I would be willing to bet it was far fewer than are trying to pump him up now that fall camp is here.

I mean, game-planning for a rushing QB is generally regarded as the most difficult thing for a college DC to do because it is largely improvisation that college defenses generally lack the speed to consistently shut down. Look at the years Manziel took off of Saban and Smart's lives trying to stop him.

If Chavis' biggest issue is stopping QB draws and breakdown scrambles, I'm ok with that. However I saw what he did to one of the greatest running QBs in history two consecutive years and just don't think it's that big of an issue.

Here's the kicker:

Chavis with LSU talent and Steele & O with LSU talent

vs.

Chavis with A&M talent and Steele & O with A&M talent

I'm taking the LSU coaches every day. There's a reason why Steele was hired, and it's because he's an amazing recruiter. Miles doesn't want Chavis to bring talent into College Station. He hired two amazing recruiters to prevent Chavis from ever having elite talent. Chavis doesn't recruit well and Miles knows that.

Make sense to you yet?

The talent is only getting a lot better, and quickly.

Keep in mind this year is probably the worst amount of talent he will have to work with at LSU while here.

Despite being a little thin on the DL and LB Brick and Chavis managed to get 1 DL and 0 LB for the 2015 class. When Steele and Coach O came in they got Arden Key as a late add on the DL. We are now looking like we will add at least 6 DL and 5 LB this class.
