Petrino over Chiz I don't agree with. I don't agree with Richt over Chiz either to be honest.

Richt may be a stretch since I don't think he is what he used to be but if I were picking a new coach for LSU and a gun was to my head to pick between Bobby P and Eugene I'd go with Petrino.

I'll be much more willing to credit Gene Chizik once he shows the ability to field a good defense.

I agree Chiz has a title...I would go Petrino over Richt because we improve in some aspect every year (or have so far). I guess I don't get the deal with Richt

I swear...this topic gets discussed every other week.

Was the ranking based on their success or the order you would take them? I'd take Dooley over Nutt.

A better question might be whether it's possible for a relativley new head coach to come to the SEC and be in that same league after 2 years
Chizik came to AU from ISU where he sucked arse. Richt came to UGA as his first ever head coaching job. In his first year he had a better record than Chiz at Auburn, and in his second year went 13-1 with only 1 national "star". And if it weren't for referees cheating to give OSU the illinois game, or OSU needing a play referred to as "holy buckeye" to beat a lousy purdue team, or FSU missing another fricking field goal against Miami, Richt would have a NC in his second year as well.

How do people put Richt that high? You must be a UGA booster.

I don't think he is as talented X's and O's guy as Saban or Spurrier,
Most coaches are going to be extremely good x's and o's coaches at this level. Coach Chiz has coached some of the most amazing defenses in the country as a D Coordinator (AU and TX). He's a good x's and o's coach. He just hasn't had the talent to put a great D on the field since becoming HC at AU.
Sorry if I sound like a douch.

This has so much photoshop potential.

I agree somewhat...Richt, up until the last year or two has been consistent...just never able to get over the hump...I guess I really don't know how to categorize the success of a coach...this is only Chizik's 5th year as a head coach...most other coaches rated above him have been HC for a lot longer...and their body of work is larger...Only 1 coach in the SEC has more NC than Chizik...

Remind me of what happened in his last couple of years. SEC coaching is a "What have you done for me lately?" profession.

I don't understand why Spurrier is so high on a lot of these lists? He was great at Florida and won a national title but he's lost 5 games every season at USC.

He want have a title in the next couple years.

The poster I was responding to specifically mentioned the coach's first 2 years on the job, which is where my response came from.

Go away and let the grown ups talk. And while you're at it, learn the difference between won't and want.

That was also me, and Richt did an incredible job, but you have to realize that Chizik and Richt came to their teams in different situations. Chizik came to an Auburn team that Tuberville had left completely depleted. We had no depth anywhere. If you had told someone in 2008 that we even had a slim possibility of being 2010 national champions, they would have thought you had lost your mind.

Hoping to see something in Dooley's second season.
Or as Dooley calls it, year 1.5.
