Auburn's crowd made Mississippi State's Oline jump 7 times in one game. Maybe Alabama just needs a better crowd.

They're just building up equity. They keep the calls low so they can throw a flag when they need to turn momentum back in Bama's favor. REC knows what they're doing. Can't be to obvious.

Its human nature to pull for the underdog. In just about any level of play you see the refs doing what they can to help the underdog. It is what it is.

Well, he said that so I don't think he would have a problem accepting that
He said that Bama benefits from fewer penalties being called because they have better players. I showed him that Bama doesn't benefit from fewer penalties being called and it's JUST because they have better players that they win (not players AND penalties).
some people like to come up with a list of excuses to make them feel better instead of accepting the simple reality - Bama has better players and better coaches, not the refs, the conference, the schedule, etc.

That ref blatantly cheating for Bama pretty much sums it up.
frick these guys.

Refs are LSU fans. This has been known for a decade.

Ok.... all I said was he already stated Bama had superior talent so the whole accepting line from you made no sense.

We love our refs, don't we folks?

Well, I have been nice about it. I have explained it rationally, so no more sugar coating it. If you truly believe that refs are cheating for Bama, then you are a weak minded fool, and probably a whiny arse bitch too. Have a nice evening.

frickin Bama fans aren't happy enough just winning titles every year. They gotta complain about refs while doing it. Meanwhile everybody with a set of eyes to watch an Alabama game knows damn well the refs will do whatever it takes to protect them.

It's just clear that the refs are subconsciously feeling bad for Alabama's opponents and are more willing to give them the benefit of the doubt.
Exactly

It goes back farther than that, even farther than the data below:
'17 - 130 out of 130 teams
'16 - 128 of 128
'15 - 102 of 128
'14 - 123 of 128
'13 - 89 of 125
'12 - 108 of 124
'11 - 117 of 120
If someone were to look at a few other categories they would probably be similar.

they are even more shite w/o context
what were the calls, what calls weren't made, who were they against, how often are the opposing teams called for penalties during the full year, where was the game played etc etc etc.

The more melty Gumps get about the protection provided to them by SEC refs the more I believe it is true.

Really, you can't normalize 5 years of data?
Posted on 10/10/17 at 5:04 pm to IAmReality
Can't beat Bama of you are committing silly penalties. Perhaps the players know this as well.

Not without more information you can't.
Sorry but there are too many factors to consider for a simple compilation of numbers to actually tell us anything worthwhile.
I'll even add some more to consider.
Who were the refs, how do they typically call games, do they favor the home team, do they call certain things tighter than others, how does that stack up against that team's yearly performance, was the game close or a blowout, what players committed the penalties, are they prone to that specific call while the rest of the team is relatively penalty free....
Simply adding up penalties to say team A gets this many penalties, while team B gets this many therefor team A is getting screwed or gets no benefit is a terrible way to come up with a lazy theory that screams the person pushing it already had their the conclusion and worked backwards to make the numbers work for them.
I'm sorry it just doesn't work that way. There are too many variables that are not considered when you do that.
About the only possible thing you could say perhaps the team that gets more penalties over that span is the less disciplined team. Even then that is a weak conclusion b/c it not consider who is making the penalties, what kind they are, and what impact they had.
