The answer is simple. Yes you can. Data over that period of time normalizes itself.

And that would be my answer if the issue was for Auburn and penalties instead of Alabama.

The point is the teams we play come in averaging a certain amount of penalties/yds per game and when they play us they get called for way fewer penalties/yds on avg.

My post a few posts up shows how long this has been going on. It's no coincidence.

So stupidly false.

Y'all have been the best team in the nation the last 5 years. You've had more blowouts than anyone else. I'd like to see stats on how many fouls were called on your opponents after a game had been decided in the rest of their games, then compare THAT to how many fouls they were called for after the game was decided in their games against you.

No. You can't. No it does not. Again, you are overlooking FAR too many variables to be able to come to any worthwhile conclusion. The very fact that these numbers seem all penalties (or lack thereof) are equal immediately makes any conclusions drawn suspect.

What team did the penalties come against, what part of the game were they in, what part of the season was it, what down was it, what kind of play call was it, is that playcall more prone to a certain type of call, do you have a crew that tends to emphasize that call, is it the same coaching staff as previous years, are you working with a young or veteran team, what is the nature of the penalty, was it offensive or defensive, was the penalty a judgement call like on pass interference or was it cut and dry with an offsides, what is the value of each penalty, was the game a blowout or very close throughout ...

Also, by focusing only on penalties called you are completely ignoring everything else refs can impact which in turn can change the way an OC is calling a game. How are they spotting the ball, what kind of judgement calls are they making, do they let the play go and worry about getting it right on review or do they prefer to be definitive regardless of how it looks, is the way the game is called causing one team to take more risks that the other, are they letting an offense line up as fast as they want to or are they slowing things down, what calls are they just flat out missing on the field....

If a team is hit with 6 obvious offsides calls, and a couple of purposeful delay of games while the opponent was hit with 2 dubious two targeting calls, and a pair of ticky tack holds that nixed TDs would you really say that the refs aided the team with less penalties?

If you were able to line up the same two teams 20 times under the same conditions over those 5 years THEN you could actually have something worthwhile.

But you can't so you don't.

Maybe the other teams are very careful against Bama because they know that Bama owns the refs .

It goes back farther than that, even farther than the data below:

'17 - 130 out of 130 teams
'16 - 128 of 128
'15 - 102 of 128
'14 - 123 of 128
'13 - 89 of 125
'12 - 108 of 124
'11 - 117 of 120

And coincidentally it was around 2011 that it was clear Alabama was building a dynasty and weren't just a one season flash in the pan.

You and Hugh aren't being logical. Regardless of the various scenarios you've come up with, it boils down to play-by-play observations by trained professionals over a long period of time, and what they do about the infractions they observe. It's ludicrous to try to "explain away" the undeniable proof that Alabama is penalized more than their opponents....don't even make yourself to appear obtuse by trying.

I have all the context you will ever need. Last year's national championship game.

99 plays

0 penalties

Unheard of. Unprecedented. Unfrickenbelievable.
