Of course you do.

Villains are driven by jealousy, getting even and having an ugly ducking syndrome. In the end when caught/owned, they always slink away shaking their little fists of hate screaming "You haven't seen the last of me...Drat you!" ... For the next 50 years at least.

All In... a days work.

Go back and watch the original Longest Yard with Burt. The inmates comment will answer your question. Cheating in sports, either on the field by points shaving or by underhanded recruiting, is low.

I thought about this when I found myself rooting against Ben Rapelesberger this entire season and tonight. I see how other fans may perceive Auburn and Cam but think the disdain is a little over the top.

all those charges got dropped because ben was innocent. Is ben a great standup guy off the field? no, he's probably a pretty average sports guy who would be seen guzzling beer and eating hotwings but to say he raped someone when it was clearly proved he didn't it what is wrong with society today.

When was it clearly proven? Innocent and not guilty are two different things. The league suspended him for a reason. I don't know if he did it but the case looked pretty bad and an officer had to resign due to the case.

What's wrong with society today is the opposite - they expect a pass from the legal system, or the NFL, etc. to negate bad behavior, thereby encouraging that bad behavior. There's a sense of entitlement here.

At the very least Ben had sex with some 20 year old college girl who was practically too drunk to walk after he pulled her into a men's room and had his "bodyguard" block the hallway and prevent her friends from rescuing her. He also exposed himself to women in the bar.

Those facts were not in dispute.

If the legal system decides to drop the case - for whatever reasons - then so be it. But that doesn't mean the public should forgive him.

If anyone thinks Cam Newton is this horrible villain because of the pay-for-play scandal but you are willing to casually dismiss all of these real crimes - particularly the sexual offenses (Hello Zach Mettenberger) - then you seriously have your priorities out of whack. Leonard Little killed some innocent mother because he was driving at three times the legal limit or something like that and it's a blurb on page 3 of the sports page.

I hope I never have a daughter. Gentility is completely dead in this society, and that's sad. We encourage women to act like worthless whores and sex objects and then we applaud guys who treat them as less than even that. It's pathetic.

I agree with most of that. I don't think Cam comes off as a great guy either though. He also has some real crimes. The felony and academic fraud charges make him look like he's not a great guy. The pay for play stuff doesn't make me think poorly of him though. If somebody is going to give me money, then I'll take it.

Stealing a laptop and cheating in college aren't like a rape charge, however the laptop thing is still a felony. If someone stole my daughter's laptop I'd be upset. If somebody raped my daughter, then I'd kill them. So it isn't really in the same ballpark.

I generally agree with your post. Based on facts Cam seems kinda like an idiot, Big Ben seems like a bad guy.

Cases are dropped in the legal system when there isn't enough evidence. Innocent until proven guilty is our legal systems motto and we have morphed into a culture that says your guilty as sin once charges are brought against you.

So Ben got shitty and fricked some drunk bar slut, he's a star qb in the nfl and your gonna say she wasn't willing to frick him and get famous, come on now.

If the Auburn fans on here like playing the villain role, then why are they whining so much about the percieved double standard?

I think all the post have good reasoning and I think someone touched on it, at the time the Newton thing was a big story and the media does what it does, ran with it. I don't think Big Ben gets a pass or any of the other players in question. As you can see you hardly hear of the Auburn situation on ESPN or in any other media anymore.
Bottom line is Auburn bought their championship and everyone including their fans know it. I personally think that is what is eating at them, the fact that they know it to be true
That being said drop it and enjoy the trophy until they take it in a couple of years. Hell Reggie Bush and USC did.

are you seriously comparing what Mettenberger to what Big Ben was accused of?

Big Ben actually got suspended for four games. How much playing time to Cam Newton miss as a result of all of this? NFL owned up to it and addressed the issue--the SEC and NCAA didn't. That makes a huge difference to me.

How can the media blast Auburn, the fans, Cam and Cecil over something as simple as pay for play allegations and in the same breath embrace a team like the Steelers who have known "dirty" players and a QB that has had 2 rape\sexual assault cases on their team.

Interesting that you, an Auburn alum, equates Auburn to the Steelers, suggesting they are both dirty programs.
