Charlotte's a neat city, wouldn't mind moving there.

Very cool post. Thanks for looking those up. Of course the data is somewhat limited by being from the LinkedIn population, but really interesting.

Having spent considerable time in several large cities including Atlanta and DC, the results are not surprising. Atlanta really does feel like the capital of the SEC, being present on 10 lists and the top of 4 (which doesn't count UGA). And DC is a real mix as well. Not as many alums as Atlanta, but definitely well represented (on 8 lists, but not the top of any of them).

Slightly surprised that Charlotte is not on another list or two.

We need to sticky this for the next time people start talking about possible other locations for the SECCG.

Huntsville will surpass Birmingham within a decade.

In what way?

Birmingham Metro has a population of 1.14 milion.
Huntsville Metro has a population of 441,000.

At their current rates of growth, it would take nearly 200 years for Huntsville to catch Birmingham in terms of size.

Even if nearby Decatur is added into the metropolitan area (which could very well happen after the next census), it would still bring the area's population to just under 600,000. That's still roughly half the size of metro Birmingham.

NE kids go to UM. UF is a predominantly instate student base. We have a ton of grads in DC but it doesn't mean that those kids are originally from DC. NY has a lot of work opportunities and our alums go there for work.

I wasn't talking about MSA, talking about within the city.

Atlanta, Dallas and Houston are the financial hubs of these states and the whole "southern" territory. Most UGA fans can find a great job in Atlanta. Moving to a lower tier city out of state makes no sense hence why they would move to other large cities.

A lot of Bama alum live out here in Dallas. I know because of all the bama gear and bumper stickers I see now. They must've all moved in around '09 and have been pouring in ever since (probably tripled by now). Its funny because when I moved here in '05 there weren't any Bama alum anywhere out here.

It's possible.

Birmingham hit its low point in population in 2013, and its now growing again. There are tons of new apartments and condos being built downtown, and with the new ballpark, a new grocery store soon to open in the urban core, growth should pick up in the coming years. My guess is it will take Huntsville at least 15-20 years to finally catch Birmingham.

No, I'm not going to continue--I've stated my opinion, and there's no need for me to drive my point home, just to be obnoxious.
I clearly offended you; but I want to point-out that I said a majority of Mississippians, not all of them--you very likely fall into the minority category.
I'm exceptionally familiar with Mississippi, and I 100% stand by my previous comments.
But I am genuinely sorry my words insulted you.

I'm from Cleburne, Texas. Great town that most likely is responsible for me liking Mississippi so much.

Oh, blah, blah, blah. I'm not offended at all. I'm laughing at the typical Texan "we're way better than you" bullshite.

Yeah, Atlanta is really strong on this. Top 3 for 10 out of 13 schools, and #1 for 4 out of 13 schools out of state.

And of course it is #1 for UGA if you look at in-state.

Bama has recruited (admissions not athletics) the DFW area hard for a number of years. Made a lot of inroads. My cousin had like 20 girls in her sorority from the DFW area

You didn't need to. What you said, exactly, was:

quote:

This is the inherent flaw (failing?) of Mississippians: A dearth of exposure to people, places, and cultures beyond a very limited radius of a few hundred miles.

when Aggies aren't exactly spreading their wings to learn about other "people, places, and cultures", as I pointed out.

The "inherent flaw" in Texans is a very misplaced and in no way justifiable sense of superiority. Just an FYI.
