Most of the students at UAB are probably either Alabama or Auburn fans.

This is the sort of moronic, 3rd grade level argument that caused so many schools to start football programs that now are losing money through their teeth and have no way to stop it.

See Georgia State.

You can't just create a football program at a commuter school and expect everyone to all of a sudden jump on board and because filled with school spirit. It doesn't work, it never has worked and it never will work.

Yeah, that shite is bigger at Samford than at UAB.

That also does not tie in to your assertion that athetlics drive enrollment.

Either way Bamers, it's a shitty thing to shut down their football. And I'm not saying that because we need a guaranteed win, there are dozens and dozens of programs we can go to for that.

I think shutting down UAB's program is a shitty thing to do, there is plenty of money in the Bama pot. This is about not wanting any competition for anything period, how insecure is that?

Then why haven't those 40K people paid the $20 to see a UAB game in years?

They had over 30k for one game this year and averaged 20k in attendance. They're turning the corner, which is precisely why the BOT is nipping it in the bud.

Because people watch Alabama and Auburn football. Do you need me to define the term "undercut" for you?

IF UAB opened the stadium gates this past Saturday and said it was absolutely free to get in they could have not got 40K people in that stadium because no one give a damn about UAB when it is compared to Alabama or Auburn.

Then why don't they just shutdown the whole UAB AD, if they don't want competition for anything, period?

My sister didn't go to Southern Miss for the athletics either, but it's a big part of her college identity. Sorority tailgates, homecoming, etc.

Southern Miss is an actual college and not a commuter college. Southern Miss has been around for 100+ years and has actual alums who pay attention to them, give back money and go to events. Are they Ole Miss or MSU? No, but they work within their means.

There are lots of smaller D1 schools like that. UAB is not one of those.

Because there are 85 kids who worked their asses off to have UAB's best season in 10 years and that team won't exist next year because a couple of assholes who don't care about it have the power to end it.

So the school should keep a program that is not self supporting because 85 kids are hurting? Business decisions have to be made all the time. These kids can transfer anywhere they want and start playing immediately or they can stay and finish their degree at UAB for free. I am sorry they had their football team taken from them, but life isn't always easy and most don't have the options these guys have when it isn't.

I assume you have inside information?

Autonomy threatened to kill all the small teams the second it was announced. UAB is just the first of many to fall. Most programs are losing money, which is all the administration cares about. Example

Seriously, if we wanted to shut down a program that was competing with us we'd damn sure shut down the basketball an baseball programs.

Hell, the football program at UAB is probably the one that is and will always be the LEAST competitive with Alabama.

There's statistical evidence that it does in the SEC, but I'm gonna refrain from comparing Apples to Oranges. I will say that Southern Miss (a fellow CUSA member) had 4k more students on campus back when they didn't suck at football.

Best season in a decade and they can pull peak 30k in a metro of 1,313,105 that has the righest ratings for CFB viewership.

Yeah, they were really on to something. Good thing ol' Jewnyah fricked up for them.

Again, this is the exact argument made in Washington when people want to cut a program that is bloated and cannot support itself fiscally. "But you are taking xxxxx away from so and so".
