The absolute ideal scenario is to add aTm to the West and VaTech to the East. I'm not sure VaTech would accept an offer though to be honest because they have such a cushy ride to a conference title and BCS game every year in the ACC. Recent games against Alabama and LSU gave Tech a measuring stick as to how competitive they would be in the SEC.

I think the reality is that we take aTm and Mizzou and send AU to its more natural home in the East with rivals UGA and UF already there. The SEC then goes to a 9 game conference schedule with Bama/AU permanent cross rivals, UGA picks up Mizzou and UT gets aTm.

UT would hate losing the Bama rivalry though as would many a Bama fan. There really would be no easy way if we can't add a team from the Eastern US.

Sure there is. As has been discussed already, add in TAMU and MU, send both UA and AU to the east, bring over Vandy to the west. Everyone in the east would keep their longest standing rivalries.

An alternative would be to sub in UT for Vandy. While this makes less sense geographically, it would allow UT and UA to keep their rivalry via the permanent cross rival route. The Vols would lose their games with UGA and UF though.

Everyone is so focused in on just adding in TAMU and MU. I'm thinking that if OU and OSU want to join as well, the SEC would expand to 16.
FSU had their chance and was invited before ARK and USC were. I doubt their stance has changed with a quote something like: "We don't want to have to play Bama, Auburn and UGA all in the same year" coming from their AD.
might wanna check your source on that one

I like A&M and Mizzou to the SEC. I like that OU and Texas will not be in the SEC. All the comments about Vandy and/or Tennessee moving West, while reasonable, are moot IMO because that will not happen.

One of these two things will happen IMO. Either:

A)A&M/Mizzou to West, Auburn to East (Bama/UT is scrapped)

OR

B)A&M/Mizzou to West, 2 new teams to East (either FlaSt/Clemson/VaTech/WestVirgina), no current SEC members switch divisions

FWIW, I think B is what is going to eventually happen, but probably not all at once. A&M/Mizzou will be the first domino to fall and pretty soon therafter we'll get the addition of 2 new teams in the East. All current SEC rivalries stay in tact and the SEC expands into new markets, win-win for everyone.

Also, FWIW, despite the Pac12 rumors, I believe that when all is said and done Oklahoma and OklahomaSt will join the Big10 and Kansas/KansasSt will join the BigEast.

OU and A&M reportedly have deals in place to join the SEC when Texas leaves the Big 12. Rest of the conference will be left high and dry.

Texas wont leave, they'll wait for someone else to leave so they wont be blamed. its going to take A&M or OU nutting up and saying adios, not waiting for Texas to do it.

I just don't see Oklahoma and Oklahoma St splitting, and I don't think the SEC wants them both. While OU would certainly be a take for the SEC with A&M (no OSU), I just don't see it happening.

A&M/Missouri is much more practical IMO.

Bring in teams with a good bowl history or championships. The last time we let a team in the SEC we were stuck with a second rate SWC team that embarrasses the SEC If they make it to a bowl game.

quote:

"I think we made a wise decision and we have more flexibility. When your in the SEC you can't afford to play a good non-conference schedule. Playing in the ACC we can play a Notre Dame , Miami and Florida. There's six teams in the SEC that can win the conference championship, that’s a negative rather than a positive. I want to win national Championships".

"Joining the ACC instead of the SEC was the smart play. No team wins a national Championship with an 8-3 record. We were willing to join the SEC as long as we didn't have to play Alabama and Auburn in the same year, but the SEC declined".

quote:

Florida State Coach Bobby Bowden preferred the ACC to the SEC for the last reason. No team, he reasoned, wins a national championship with an 8-3 record, which was a distinct possibility in the ultracompetitive SEC. In fact, LSU's [Joe Dean] revealed that Florida State was willing to join the SEC only if the Seminoles didn't have to play Auburn and Alabama in the same season. The league declined.

This is an iteresting 'superconference' scenario I saw on texags...although I don't see the disintegration of the ACC and a couple of those ACC teams in the SEC.

Mizz should not join the SEC ever. They are yankees and outsiders and that will not work.

If I could have my way, we would add A&M in the West, Florida St. in the East and be done with it.

The more I think about it, I really have no desire for Missouri. I want A&M, but they are the ONLY team in the Big12 that I would like to see get an SEC invite.

As much as I do not care for Sooner fans, I think adding OU would be better for the conference. I don't see OU going to the PAC, travel cost would eat them alive. I don't see any benefit to adding Mizzou. Bring on those goofy arse Aggies if that is the best we can do.

I would like to see UNC or VT added. With UNC's recent NCAA problems that probaly will not happen.

But then the SEC and NCAA problems go together like corn whiskey and NASCAR
