Bob Stoops is less likely than Gruden.

Unless he's more bored than a night watchman at a cemetery doing broadcasting, I just don't see it happening.

Deal is in the works for Gruden coaching the offense and Stoops coaching the defense

I realize this thread is tongue in cheek and I highly doubt Gruden leaves ESPN despite his love for UT (too much headache when he's got a damn sweet gig) but I will say that unlike past hiring searches we're willing to pony up for the right guy.

There are a few problems though:

1. the coaching pool is exceptionally limited -- the 90s and early 00s where great coaches were everywhere seemed to have faded as boomers have hit retirement age which makes sense when you think about how big the boomer generation was/is as compared to those who came after.

2. While I've been convinced by people who would/should know that we're willing to pay, they've also made clear that they won't overpay which eliminates some coaches that fans would want to steal from another place but who haven't proven enough to warrant the salary.

3. Similar to the above point in that we're finally willing to pay but I'm not sure we're willing to give up control the way a few candidates would want.

JMO, based on what I've heard from ~2 people I trust when it comes to UT coaching searches. I could be horribly misinformed but they've been trustworthy in the past and the points make sense to me.

Nope, he's coming this time. He's going to be an all time legend of CFB by 2025. He's going to run off Saban. Put your seatbelt on it's gonna be fun soon.

If you ever watch much of Gruden, you realize he would have to dumb down his system to make it work for college athletes. It would take him three to four years to get everything in place. He doesn't have the patience to stick around that long for success.

With his brother a state north, and him still with plenty of years left, I'm a bit alarmed at the possible resurrection of UT football.

It's more real than you think. Despite what the naysayers are saying. Never underestimate the power of of a Secret Shoney's breakfast.
