Really haven't spent anytime justifying anything other than his saying the camps wouldn't help Stanford recruiting. Most of the time has been spent responding to misstatements about Stanford recruiting and what Shaw has said about admissions.

And just sort of surfing the thin skin wave.

As a Vanderbilt grad from Mississippi who was actually accepted at Stanford, I can only shake my head and sigh at Shaw making Stanford grads sound like stupid pricks. And, unlike Shaw, I didn't have the advantage of sports covering for any intellectual deficiencies during the admissions process. (Granted, being a legacy, I was always going to attend Vandy, and Stanford offered me very little in the way of scholarship money, but still...)

Furthermore, anyone who seriously believes scholarship athletes -- be they at Stanford, Vanderbilt, or Florida International -- are held to the exact same standards as other students is either very gullible or just really adept at self-deception. I'm sure some very smart kids play for Stanford. I'm equally certain some very smart kids play for every single team in the SEC. That's not a measure of a university's exclusiveness, nor a reflection of a region's educational quality -- it's an inevitable conclusion based on the fact that smart people will be smart regardless of where they come from or where they end up.

I mean you're right to a degree but do you think Stanford has any kids on their football team who can't read? Do you think any SEC teams do? Just as an example, Michael Oher literally couldn't read very well when he was at Ole Miss. Hell of a football player, but I doubt he would have been playing at Stanford.

Lol, there were at least 10 people in my graduating class at prattville that had the grades and scores to get into stanford if they also had the money or connections. I dont think any of them were on the football team though.

Excellent post random.

His cluelessness is mind-boggling.
e.g. The Cox Academic Center For Student-Athletes has been lauded by national publications and educational associations as stat-of-the-art and a standard for all.

Reminder that one of their better players as of late was from GA.

He is correct, truth hurts. My sister goes to Stanford and it's extremely difficult to get in, she was one of only 2 in the entire state of MS to get accepted there. If you watch the interviews of SEC football players they aren't exactly scholars.

What's odd is my sister got a full scholarship to Stanford but was not accepted into Florida.

No, my intent from the beginning has been clear and I've never pretended to know less than I do. You could argue that providing the quote was disingenuous, but as I said it was with an intent. It's called planting land mines in a debate. One can hardly say that I'm in the wrong and then say that Stanford is *not* in the wrong given what I provided in the follow up.

I notice you had no actual response for the information I provided directly from a Stanford publication. Again, I've never said that the academic prowess of the Stanford football program isn't admirable... simply that they are not all the elite academic performers which Stanford purports them to be. You could have just agreed and went on your way...

No one said Stanford isn't an elite school, but that Shaw's hyperbole was elitist. Understand? It was a smarmy and arrogant shot that was both douchey and hypocritical.

Agreed. So Stanford's """"""ADMISSIONS""""""" standards are higher. Does that make PhD professors teaching at buildings in Palo Alto somehow better than PhD professors teaching at buildings in Knoxville or Tuscaloosa or Athens or Baton Rouge or Oxford or Lexington ??????

In the end, it's up to the STUDENT-ATHLETE.

LSU has maybe the best Academic Centers for Student Athletes, but in the end, the student has to want to graduate.

LSU has had several Draddy Award Winners (Academic Heisman) as well as numerous Academic All-Americans.

Just because a university is exclusive and costs more to go to and very selective for test scores, doesn't make it "academically" superior.

News flash: ALLLLLLLLLL universities have "academics." Some universities have certain curricula or programs that are well-respected, and some are very highly ranked in research.

But a university cannot GIVE students the grades or pass them and/or graduate them automatically. All they can do is supply the tools needed. The student must have 'a want' to graduate (to quote Les.)

And may God have mercy on their souls.

Kind of bizarre that people on this thread seem to want to continue to debate the idea that a school may have certain minimum academic standards, or academic standards for success, which may differ from particular scores that individual students may need to get in. If my competition is an exceptional athlete or artist, I am almost certainly going to have to make a better SAT score because they have already excelled in an endeavor and perhaps established themselves as leaders -- they are going to be a much better asset to the school and the student body than I am.

You don't let exceptional athletes in because they are dumber. You let them in because they have skills and experience that others don't have. They have met or exceeded the standard of having unique students.

I already responded. I responded by stating you misquoted. You admitted it.

You claimed that Shaw said that Stanford football players don't get special consideration. You provided a link that didn't support that. Most people would say that you made a mistake by doing so.

If you double down on it, most would say you were kind of a dick for doing so.

So there are two actual responses for you.

Stanford has more players from the Deep South than UCLA does. Cal also has more than UCLA does. Cal has two dummies from the Sip.

Stanford also has more from Dixie than Michigan does. How do they get all those dummies in?

Don't know how it was hypocritical and it's obvious some think it is douchey. Shaw's prior relationship (and competition) with Harbaugh is what to me underlies the comment.

If you want to read more into that into a response to a question that came out of the blue to Shaw, that's on you.

People always searching for a way to be insulted.
