So wat would it take? What is the political end from a Mizzou fan. I have always been surprised they did not have one long ago with their markets. Any backstory you might share here to educate the rest of us?

Although they would have stiff competition for talent as they'd at best be the 2nd best program in the state for quite some time as SLU has 10 national championships in soccer.

How many more women's sports would you like us to add to make it okay? Can't add women's soccer. It already exists to support the other sports.

How many on a wrestling team? I am guessing M soccer rosters run between 25 and 30. I always envisioned wrestling teams at maybe half that number or less.

Maybe, but I'd rather ditch baseball than a sport we're actually pretty good at.

Plus, wouldn't we compete in another conference in Soccer anyways? If we're doing the random conference thing, I'd rather do it at something we're good at.

We're not dropping wrestling. We're too good.

I love baseball and I'm about at this point with Mizzou.

Our swimming program is without question the worst program at LSU and will be for the foreseeable future

A lot can change, and prolly will soon. After expanding the Box, renovating the Tiger Stadium concourses, and building a facility for sand volleyball, there's literally nothing else other than a new swimming facility that LSU needs to build.

I fully expect a new swimming facility at LSU will be green lighted for 2016 or 2017 completion.

Back on topic, there is a already club team for soccer at LSU, and support is decent. In order for men's soccer to become a varsity sport, LSU would have to add a women's sport to offset it due to Title IX.

Equestrian would be great, or rowing. LSU has long coveted the space occupied by Acacia on W. Lakeshore for a marina.

Cocks and Cats play in CUSA. Mizzou would probably start in CUSA or MAC. The bigger issue is the SEC bylaws. All it takes for the SEC to back a sport as a conference is 4 team. Already at 50% so adding Mizzou gets it to 75%. At that point someone else jumps in and you have 4 and SEC status.

reedus, but now that Mizzou wrestling has dropped to MAC status, will they drop in stature and go through a long death spiral?

I get that, but in the meantime we're adding non revenue women's sports for a non revenue men's sport in a generally unpopular national sport for what?

The prestige of being a "Charter member" of the SEC soccer league? Pass.

Not to mention we've got to keep another field green in the brutal midwestern autumns and winters? Pass again.

Get some of these other people in, we'll reluctantly join in with the same disadvantage as the baseball team.

My understanding was Mizzou wrestled in Big 8, then Big 12. When they dropped out of the B12 they had to park wrestling in the MAC as the SEC did not have wrestling.

MAC is one of the stronger wrestling conferences out there. The only way Mizzou could have moved up in wrestling was to move to the Big Ten.

Absent of that, it's kind of what it is.

ETA: It's like if the SEC stopped supporting basketball and Kentucky joined the American conference. Sure, it's not the best, but it's the best that will have you.

When was the last time a MAC team won an NCAA NC? looks like it is just a B1G and B12 sport when it comes to bringing home the hardware.

Here are the teams with a NC by conference :

(49) B12 = 57.65% of total NC's
(34) Oklahoma State
(08) Iowa State
(07) Okalhoma

(33) B1G = 38.82% of total NC's
(23) Iowa
(05) Penn State
(03) Minnesota
(01) Michigan State
(01) Indiana

(01) PAC = 1.180% of total NC's
(01) Arizona State

(02) OTR = 2.350% of total NC's
(01) Northern Iowa in 1950
(01) Cornell College in 1947

Pretty sure if UK did not land in a Big 5 program it would drop off greatly. The current discussion is how long Uconn will hold on in M and W basketball in the AAC. Many seem to think they will start dropping off the radar the way La Tech did in W basketball. La Tech is a shell of its former self and the big chunk of that coaching tree was transplanted to a Big 5 conference school (Baylor)

FWIW, UK is the top of college basketball so for your analogy to work better we would have to be discussing Oklahoma State or Iowa wrestling.

Like I said, the only way Mizzou wrestling could have moved up was to move to the Big Ten.

They wouldn't have had us, and the Big 12 wouldn't have us either.

It's like moving to the best available conference. Surely, you understand that. Unless your whole goal with this discourse is to shite on Mizzou wrestling and say it should be eliminated, you should agree. You're smart enough to understand what I was saying and understand why I said it.

So, should we continue, or would you like to float out useless statistics and shite on Mizzou, as per usual, as well as Mizzou Wrestling and the MAC wrestling in general and just have me tap out at this point?

We ditched our program in 2006. No big loss.

Soccer sucks.
