Think Long Term

If Okie Light, TCU, and Tech improve it will make the conference only stronger.

Arkansas was replaced and so can Nebraska, Mizzou, CU and aTm

The only school the big 12 needs to replace is texas, maybe then they can get back to somewhat respectable on the football field.

I can't edit for the day it happens and Texas just goes independent, where they fall even further into the mediocre abyss.

Think notre dame, but worse

The state of Texas is becoming more powerful by the year in terms of population and GDP this will ultimately reap benefits for UT

I see another upswing in the future even more powerful than the Mack Brown years for UT

You.... you do realize that other states are experiencing the same thing, right? Texas isn't the only state with an increasing population and GDP.

In 2011 they were a win vs LSU away from probably being in the SEC championship and going to the national championship.

Only state with a higher percentage of population growth between 2010-2015 was North Dakota

During the same time Texas had the 8th highest increase in GDP with the seven states ahead of them being much smaller

I found it very interesting in the thread about Bert that many Arkansas fans basically admit that their program cannot recruit at the level of the historical SEC powers and that they are happy with Bert given that limitation.

Seeing as how recruiting talent defines team potential more than any other metric, what sort of ceiling do Arkansas fans believe their program has? Has this potential mental ceiling gone up for down the last six years?

Note: I am not asking for a recounting of the best Arkansas has done (aka the historical ceiling), I am asking about the future ceiling as a program going forward from this point.

Thank you in advance.

The ceiling is a national title. It has been done before and it can be done again.

Like with all title runs, some luck is going to need to be involved.

In 2010, Arkansas lost two regular season games. In each of those losses, Arkansas had the lead in the fourth quarter but could not close the deal against Alabama at home and #1 Auburn on the road.

In 2006, Arkansas won 10 consecutive games after losing the season opener to Southern Cal, only to come up 5 points short to LSU in the season finale and a muffed punt away from winning the SEC Championship.

As an Arkansas fan, one thing I have enjoyed is seeing the program win with total different philosophies. Nutt was a ground and pound it guy. Petrino liked to fling it around. Hatfield liked the option.

I like what Bert is building here right now. In this league, you have to win in the trenches. Any time Arkansas has been the winner of the West division, we have been really strong up front and had a great running game. Even with Petrino, we had a power run game. It is essential in this league. I think the addition of Enos as OC really gives our offense a little extra boost, it just took some time last season for everyone to get on the same page.

Just remember that the SEC would replace aTm with UT just as quick as your NC hopes will fade away against UCLA this September

Oh I dunno about that. We had pretty good luck with it. He's just a Hall of Fame coach, that's all.

Texass does not bother us anymore, I thought we proved that in Houston. Just in case you missed that game here is a recap for you.

We would have to have a prefect storm or a few breaks, but their have been a few seasons over the last 20 years ( 98, 06, 10,11) where we were a few more breaks away from playing for a NC.

Bowl games 8/10 years, top 25 finish 5/10 years I think are realistic goals for the program.

If we swap out A&M for that school in Austin we'd have a lot of room to work with... because I'm fairly certain Arkansas and Mizzou would pack their bags as well. Not because we love A&M, but because we know what a cancer Texas is to any conference they wind up in.

We've got a Texas team already thank you, I think we will keep the Aggies. If you are really looking to jump ship I'm sure that the Sunbelt or Conference USA might give you a look.
