So, you're telling me these numbers are incorrect

The link you gave has bogus numbers galore. The numbers are an overreach for the most part. Use the link below to calculate the numbers yourself. Take each States white population and multiple by 20% (which represents the average percent of a state's populace that is an able bodied fighting soldier). Then subtract from that number the number of southern unionist from each state. This should give a good approximation of each state's contribution to the confederate cause.

*Don't forget to remove approximately 400k from Virginia's 1860 census population because that is the number of citizens who became West Virginians.

**To calculate the white population of each State take the State's total population and subtract both the slave and freed slave populations (which you will have to research on another site).

Numbers often get grossly exaggerated for no doubt glorious intent. But the modified numbers are still very impressive.

Aborigines of Australia squat around ant beds and eat them as they come out. They think they are great too.

Hood resigned from the United States Army immediately after the Battle of Fort Sumter and, dissatisfied with the neutrality of his native Kentucky, decided to serve his adopted state of Texas.

No partial credit on this exam. Hood became a Texan when his native state could not make up their mind. Hood was born in Kentucky but became a Texan by choice.

There is no record that Hood ever even stepped foot in the state of Texas. However he is buried in Louisiana

By God you are right Frac the world. Carpet bagging sons of bitches.

But I am confused - what is this civil war you people are speaking of? I know about the war against northern aggression, but know nothing of this supposed civil war.
